Yet another fine story by Robert A. Heinlein narrated and performed by Bronson Pinchot showing far more range than I had ever realized he had.

HOT SOUP!

That really says it all.

The way it was written and performed, it’s like sitting in a bar listening to an NCO tell war stories.

Wow, that was good. If grunt level military sci-fi is your thing then Nick Cole is definitely a go to guy.

And Christopher Ryan Grant brings everything to life. Really sells it.

The only way this could have been better is if they could have gotten the late Darren McGavin to read it.

As it was, Johnny Heller did a fine job.

There were times I could almost imagine how Darren McGavin would have provided the performance and he is missed.

Robots everywhere.

Asimov’s robot stories are mostly logic problems delving into the operation of devices that follow a given set of principles.

The problems are often why did the robot behave in this way or how do we get the robot to behave how we want it to.

Occasionally other types of situations arise, but it all has to do with how the robots behave as guided by Asimov’s fictional Laws of Robotics.

Nicely bookended by an interview with Dr Susan Calvin that provided the connecting background to all the stories.

An excellent example of Isaac Asimov’s great skill at story telling.

The foreshadowing makes the eventual conclusion obvious about half way through the book, but the ride remained enjoyable to its predictable ending.

Much like trip where you know the destination, but are there for the joy of the journey.

Great tale told by a master.

A story of survival against obstacles and hardships stranded on an island with nothing but their wits and their bodies to provide for them, and a mysterious agent of aid providing assistance at just the perfect moment.

An addition to the engaging story, it can act as a bit of a reference guide to the nuts and bolts of survival.

Planet of the Apes the novel is a much different story than that found in the films, but it was fascinating to experience the book that inspired such a franchise.

The iconic scenes from the film are here, it is very easy to see how they inspired those moments in the film.

Anyway, excellent book.

Know thy enemy

Just finished The Communist Manifesto by German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Commissioned by the Communist League and originally published in London just as the Revolutions of 1848 began to erupt.

The purpose of this pamphlet is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning and inhibit clarity. A well practiced effort in intellectual intimidation creating a near impenetrable fog of deception.

In its most coherent parts it shifts between sophistry, circular, logic, and frequent sojourns into pure evil.

I am not suggesting one should avoid this work, in fact, I recommend everyone read it.

One should know thy enemy, and they are your enemy. They are threat to your life, your well-being, your liberty, and all you may hold dear.
