Historia
Carla Andrews and Lorraine West are work colleagues and best friends. They socialise together, they work in the same bookmakers and they support each other as only best friends can. Then they are murdered together. When DI Tom Fowler is handed the case, he discovers a journal that Carla has left and must unpick the secrets Lorraine has kept hidden. Soon Carla’s and Lorraine’s husbands become the main suspects. It’s usually the spouse who is responsible, isn’t it? The investigation progresses until Isaac West, Lorraine’s 16-year-old son, disappears.

Not sure how I feel
Revisado: 03-28-25
Nicely written but I found it less believable and relatable than I had hoped. I felt like certain parts we’re wrapped up a bit too abruptly and neatly which left me feeling dissatisfied. Definitely not a masterpiece but allowed me to be busy while traveling long distance.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Enjoyed but
Revisado: 04-02-23
It flowed very well, very easy and almost compelling to listen. The only thing is, I felt it was rushed in the end and, like some other reviewers, It left me a bit dissatisfied. Seems like it was missing a better slower epilogue

Read for my book club
Revisado: 03-13-23
I did not have high expectations for this book, so was not disappointed. It’s a bit slow at times. I began to suspect I knew “who did it” relatively early on. A bit too teenagery for my taste and somewhat predictable.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Rita Todacheene is a forensic photographer working for the Albuquerque police force. Her excellent photography skills have cracked many cases—she is almost supernaturally good at capturing details. In fact, Rita has been hiding a secret: she sees the ghosts of crime victims who point her toward the clues that other investigators overlook. As a lone portal back to the living for traumatized spirits, Rita is terrorized by nagging ghosts who won’t let her sleep and who sabotage her personal life.

This is why you cannot trust good reviews
Revisado: 10-23-22
Very simplistic with a bit too much gore at times, and a lazy use of the vocabulary. The whole notion of ghosts needing closure has been done much better in other books and cinematic undertakings. I couldn’t decipher if this was a crime or a supernatural story or both but whichever it was supposed to be did absolutely nothing for me. To be honest, I stopped reading at about 3/4th through the book, so perhaps it got incredibly better incredibly fast but my misery trying to finish it didn’t seem to be worth it…

Historia
The whole of Western natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change, forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory. At the same time, these findings have increased our doubt and uncertainty about traditional physical explanations of the universe's genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around.

A definite must read
Revisado: 05-05-22
It may very well be that you will not agree with the author or find a bunch of works trying to debunk his thinking, yet the questions he asks remain and no one has the monopoly on answering them. Lanza goes from detailed scientific experiments to personal accounts to statements I found touched me deeply and made me stop, reflect and feel the breath of the Eternal. If you’re ready to ask these questions, definitely read this book.
