Good, but the age was a challenge
Revisado: 02-21-25
This story was pretty good. It was pretty rape heavy so that should be a trigger warning for anybody, and like others have said it was pretty male dominated in the sex arena. It was hard for me to connect with a story though, because the main character was a 16-year-old, then an 18-year-old girl. When I’m reading about sex and womanhood, it’s not with the image of a little girl. I would rather have it be somebody who’s at least in their 20s! So that was really difficult. Otherwise, it was a good enough read.
I paid $2.56 for this book and I feel that it was worth it. Definitely not worth a whole credit.

Good story
Revisado: 02-12-25
I didn’t love this one and it took me forever to get through, but part of that is that I have SO MUCH going on in my life at the moment! But, you know how it is, when its a great book, we’ll find excuses to listen. This did not fall into that category. It was a sweet story, don’t get me wrong. Just kind of plain I guess.
I got this for $2.94 and it was worth it.

Just no
Revisado: 12-19-24
I am not a fan of the constant “missed connections” plot. You know, “I love him but he doesn’t love me.” and “I love her, if only she loved me.” At a third of the way in, we were on chapter 7 but it felt like we were still reading chapter one. It was just droning on and on and on. If you like that kind of plot then this is the book for you though!
I paid $3.04 on this and feel it was a waste. Wish Id have gotten something else.

In Kissed By Shadows, Lady Philippa Nielson has no memory of what took place in her bedchamber in the dead of night - nor knowledge of the dangerous plot that put her life in jeopardy. But with a brief touch of his hand and one glance of his knowing gray eyes, Pippa felt a connection to the dark stranger who should have been her greatest enemy.

Interesting storyline. Trigger warning for rape.
Revisado: 12-12-24
This was a long story, but went by very quickly. I was shocked initially at the rape scenes, but felt that it was really a somewhat gentle way to explore a very real possible experience. These things do happen and it was interesting to see how she processed it and how things played out. The only thing for me that I didn't like was that it went from this crisis of escape , and then the story just abruptly ended.
Narration was very good, though I did have to speed it up a little.
I got this book on sale for $3.04 and it was well worth that! I would have felt it was worth a two for one sale also. I don't generalize spend just a one credit on one book so I can't really say how I would have felt if I had spent a credit on it

This was fun
Revisado: 12-03-24
This was actually a fun story that wasn't super infiltrated with sex. I don't mind sex in a book but it's gotten pretty boring.
I liked that the relationship started right off and only got better, instead of having ups and downs within. I am not a fan of relationship angst. Narration was as expected from Susan Duerden. I generally have to speed her up, but it's not awful.
I paid $2.94 for it and feel it was well worth that. Also a good 2 for 1 sale, but for picky me, probably not a whole credit. But in all fairness, I very rarely use a credit on a book.

I enjoyed as a standalone
Revisado: 10-07-24
I haven't yet read any of this series. However, having gotten this on a 2 for 1 sales I read it anyways. I enjoyed it for the most part. It did go at a very fast pace as far as the plot goes and I think there could have been a little more investment in the development in the relationship between Poppy and Harry. But, it wasn't a dealbreaker. The secondary characters were thoroughly enjoyable and I look forward to reading the others in the series. Especially the next one, as we were left with a cliffhanger about it!
Overall I was pleased. It was worth a 2/1 sale but I'm not sure it would be worth a full credit.

Not sure if it’s the story or the narrator but 👎
Revisado: 09-25-24
Had to quit this one halfway through. It was awful! I'm not sure if it was because of the narration, the story, or both!! Now, I am not a prude and I don’t mind sex in a book, in fact, I enjoy it when it’s well written (Read Ruthless, House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart.), but the entire plot revolved around these two hyper horny people!! And Joel Froomkin, who bless his heart, tried his best, but sounded awful especially when he was trying to sound sexy!!!
I got this on a 2 for 1 sale and it was a huge waste.

Nice, and tied up at the end
Revisado: 09-20-24
The story was great, as have been all the stories in this series. I had to increase the speed because Kate Reading reads like a snail sometimes.
What I loved most is that this tied up the series so nicely at the end. Series don't always do that and especially not into the characters dotage. Lol.
I got this in a 2 for 1 sale and it was well with it.

Not my favorite but still ok
Revisado: 09-07-24
This started out good and I enjoyed the characters and the progression of the story. And then it got redundant and monotonous. Marjories constant whining (maybe this is Justine Eyres responsibility?) really started to grate on my nerves. Also, for Jonathan to one day be a guardian, attracted to his annoying ward, but still a guardian, and then the next day madly in love just really came out of nowhere! There was not enough character development in that regard.it wasn't an awful story, just one that could have benefited from a little refinement.
Justice eyre isn't my favorite narrator, but also not one that'd actively avoid. She was consistent to my previous experiences with listening to her.
I got this in a 2 for I sale and feel it was worth it. I would still read the other 2 in this series that I haven't read. ( I'm not reading in order)

I enjoyed very much
Revisado: 08-22-24
This was an enjoyable story and it was so nice to read Rothgars story finally! He and Diana had great chemistry. It was fun to see as these two people who had never wanted to get. married, navigated through the situations and emotions that changed that resolve. Susan Duerden did a great job. I really enjoy her narration. There was one very very annoying part of the story and boy howdy did SD relay it well! The King says "What What" wwwaaayyyy tttoooo mmmuucchhh! But the story is worth the annoyance. I suspect it was intended to come across as annoying as it was. Haha
I got this book for the sale price of $2.55 and it definitely was well worth it. I very rarely spend a credit on just one book some saying I wouldn't spend a whole credit on itdoesn't really count. However I totally feel itsworth a 2 for sale.
