Historia
Sal seems to appear out of nowhere - a bruised and tattered 13-year-old boy claiming to be the devil himself answering an invitation. Fielding Bliss, the son of a local prosecutor, brings him home, where he's welcomed into the Bliss family, who assume he's a runaway from a nearby farm town. When word spreads that the devil has come to Breathed, not everyone is happy to welcome this self-proclaimed fallen angel. Murmurs follow him, and tensions rise along with the temperatures as an unbearable heat wave rolls into town right along with him.

Historia
From the break-out star of BuzzFeed and the People's Choice Award-winning comedian comes a collection of hilariously anguished essays chronicling awful moments from his life so far, the humiliations of being an adult, and other little indignities. Matt Bellassai has no idea what he's doing. Well, to be fair, he did become semi-Internet famous by getting drunk at work, making him a socially-acceptable - nay - professional alcoholic. He's got some things figured out. But the rest is all just a terrible, disgusting mess.

One of life's mysteries...
Revisado: 01-06-18
This made me laugh out loud more than a few times, and it goes without saying that that's just never bad.
Also, my brain isn't capable of comprehending what may be wrong with people who didn't laugh out loud at any part of this book. I'm truly perplexed... one of life's great mysteries, I guess...

Oh, the Merry Dancers!
There was a level of honesty reached with the writing of this memoir that must have been difficult to put to paper. That, I admire. Among the brutal honesties are details of living beauties she seeks in place of the drink. What a beautiful journey through the recovery process!

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

This intelligent, amazing, ambitious, awful feminist and her attempts to die...
Revisado: 12-10-17
I anticipated enjoying this read. I'm no stranger to bouts of sadness... I'm empathetic to the topic. Perhaps if the main character was more relatable... instead of a whiney, self destructive girl who is anything but relatable, I could have enjoyed this book. The descriptive writing was admirable and, in parts, gorgeous in it's own right.

That hype though!
Revisado: 12-08-17
The story was "just alright"... not the sort of thing I'd expect from a Nobel Prize winner. I kept waiting for something amazing to unravel and leave me in awe. Nope. I sense the attempt at sweetness here, but the characters fell flat as cardboard for me. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Revisado: 10-15-17
Man, this book left me feeling angry. This is my second read of Jodi Picoult's novels, and the first one left me even angrier! I won't be reading anymore of her work. Her writing is not for me. She is much heavier-handed than necessary, and it is not a good look.

It's a radical, provocative idea: We're not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own "righteous anger" is a myth. It is the number-one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it.

Historia
Jacqueline was her mother’s perfect daughter—polite and quiet, always dressed as a princess. If her mother was sometimes a little strict, it’s because crafting the perfect daughter takes discipline. Jillian was her father’s perfect daughter—adventurous, thrill-seeking, and a bit of a tom-boy. He really would have preferred a son, but you work with what you've got. They were five when they learned that grown-ups can’t be trusted. They were twelve when they walked down the impossible staircase and discovered that the pretense of love can never be enough to prepare you a life filled with magic.

This story of Jack and Jill was an interesting one, no doubt. I wish there had been more exploration of the sub-characters, as I think that would have painted a more vivid picture for me. It's well told otherwise, I feel. It just seemed abbreviated. I would have liked to know more about the moors and its inhabitants... How it came to be, how the residents felt about the doctor, etc. Loved the plot!

First... There is not a thing in the world wrong with this narrator or her voice or the speed at which she reads. I'm glad I didn't skip this one based on the reviews that stated otherwise.
"We catch ourselves wondering if God secretly agrees with those who've hurt us." Boy, she just gets it so right in some spots in this book. I love it when an author can make me feel like I'm not alone in some of the most "bizarre" thoughts I've ever had.
This book is a good source of spiritual encouragement, and I would recommend it because... after all... rejection is just one of those things every single person faces at some time in some fashion. This book shines a light on all the things most of us already know, but those thoughts are hiding back in the dark corners of the musty basement of our minds. This is perfect source material for anyone needing a reminder of how to deal with pain, how to rise above, how to remember God is there and wants to heal us.
