Historia
Jenifer Lewis keeps it real in this provocative and touching memoir by a Midwestern girl with a dream whose journey from poverty to Hollywood will move, shock, and inspire listeners. Told in the audacious voice her fans adore, Jenifer describes a road to fame made treacherous by dysfunction and undiagnosed mental illness, including a sex addiction. Yet, supported by loving friends and strengthened by "inner soldiers", Jenifer never stopped entertaining and creating.

Historia
It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

I only knew Billy from Pose and American Horror Story. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing his story and the battles he has fought to get where he is now.

Historia
You Can’t Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn’s idiosyncratic life. It’s about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very far—and whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder…or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country’s first Black president.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Revisado: 08-22-22
Jennette takes you on such a deep and emotional journey. To hear her describe such life changing events and how hard her battle has been is emotional. The things we don't know because they are behind closed doors. I'm so proud of her strength in all that she has been through.

I love Ty's writing! She is incredibly relatable and heart felt. Being a woman that lost her mother too soon I could understand some many of her emotions. I had recently listed to her podcast and stopped to check out this book. So good!

Growing up in Ferguson, Missouri, Stanley Andrisse began making poor decisions at a very young age. He started selling dope and was arrested for the first time at 14 years old. By his early 20s, hewas in front of a judge facing 20 years to life on drug-trafficking charges. Such an excellent book and definitely makes you look at the formerly incarcerated in a whole new light. Mr. Andrisse does not sugar coat his past convictions or the trials he faced during and post incarceration. A personal bonus for me was growing up in St. Louis and being able to relate on another level.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Revisado: 12-07-21
So I've been a fan of Dave's music and personality for a long time. I've seen so many interviews and even heard some of these stories before the book. I was still absolutely enthralled by this book. Honestly I hope he writes more books or even better if he released a weekly podcast. His stories are so detailed and for a person of his talent and caliber he is truly humble. Dave Grohl is the kind of person I never get tired of hearing talk. Also amazing to know the back story on his challenges to get were he is.
