Even in his older years Bob Lee Swagger is still a bad ass!

I did not care for the reader. The reader should have Buck Schirner, that’s the voice(s) best associated with Bob Lee Swagger.

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

I do not believe anyone has ever collected so much factual scientific fact / data and woven it into such a great story. The author’s epilogue and Appendix are chilling analogies from the past and are applied to the current “climate”.

Great story. The readers performance was surprisingly bad. Should have kept Buck Schirner as the reader.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Be Glad you read this book!
Revisado: 10-18-15
Would you listen to The Martian again? Why?
Yes. I've listened to this book many times! R. C. Bray does an excellent job reading Andy Weir's novel! The Martian is as humorous as it is inspriring! As with most movie adaptations, the movie was not hearly as good as the book, so be greatful for this awesome audio book!
What other book might you compare The Martian to and why?
The Legacy of Heorot by Larry Niven. The colonists in Heorot are as inventive as Mark Watney, although they face their own tribulations.
If decide to listen to the Legacy of Heorot, be sure and listen to the other two books in the series: Beowulf's Children, and, The Secret of Black Ship Island.
Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were many actually........... I would have to say the voyage to the Carl Sagan memorial was the most brilliant and intuitive move that Mark Watney made.
Any additional comments?
Too bad the movie did not follow the book. I've seen the movie twice. Once the audience were JPL geeks who were as disappointed as I was with the movie. The second time was in a central coast college town with college kids who had not read the book and they loved it. That being said, if you've read the book the movie will be disappointing, too many changes in characters and the humor just doesn't work. Although the imagery is awesome. I have to say I was hopeful with Ridley Scott directing the movie it would be good. If you are just now getting around to reading, or in this case listening to the book, you are about to be rewarded with a great listening experience, and the theater of the mind!

Historia
He was one the best Marine snipers in Vietnam. Today, 20 years later, all Bob Lee Swagger wants is to be left alone. But a shadowy military organization seduces him into one last mission for his country - unaware until too late that the game is rigged. The assassination plot is executed to perfection until Bob Lee Swagger, alleged lone gunman, comes out of the operation alive, the target of a nationwide manhunt, with his only allies a woman he just met and a discredited FBI agent.

Original Unabridged would be MUCH better
Revisado: 10-18-15
Would you try another book from Stephen Hunter and/or Beau Bridges?
Probably not if it is abridged. I have read the original unabridged Point of Impact and it is so much better than the abridged version. I can understand adapting Point of Impact to the Screen and calling it "Shooter", and that is what the abridged book should be titled.
Point of Impact is an outstanding book that gives so much detail into the mind of Bob Lee Swagger. Not to mention that the story is much better than the movie version. Again, I understand adapting it to a movie and there a limitations, mainly time, and this case it is a question of production cost for the period of time that the book takes place that prevent presenting the book in its original form.
Which is really too bad because the original story is so much better than the PC genre' that the movie takes.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not like the original book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Not gritty enough to be "Bob the Nailer"
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The fact that the book is the result of bringing Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee to the big screen is good. By the looks of the changed title of Dirty White Boys to "Black Light" I'm assuming a sequel to Shooter is in the works. Shooter is really good movie.
Any additional comments?
Make Point of Impact an unabridged book, and make Shooter it's own book.

Great Story
Revisado: 10-18-15
If you could sum up Dead Zero in three words, what would they be?
The reader, along with Stephen Hunter's great writing ability provide for a great listening experience. Bob Lee is presented with another what appears to be a locked door mystery. But his persistence, intuition, common sense, and moral compass provide the reader with a fantastic story of true hero's.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead Zero?
Definitely! I found this book by accident, and had not realized that there had been more Bob Lee Swagger books written since I Sniper.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Bob reveals what I had expected he did when he handed the National Intelligence Chief his brief case. Another example of Bob Lee's ability to turn the hunters into the hunted.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!
Any additional comments?
YES!
Please, Please make the original books in the Bob Lee Swagger series available in Unabridged versions with Buck Shcimer as the reader.
While Beau Bridges narrating the abridged versions is fine for what I assume will be more movie adaptations, it is crying shame that the orginial books, Point of Impact, Dirty White Boys, Time to Hunt, etc.... are not in unabridged audible format.
