Historia
Morgan Siler is one of Washington, D.C.'s most powerful K Street law firms, its roster of clients stocked with multi-billion-dollar corporations. Through the obsessive efforts of its founder's son, Peter Morgan, his father's old-fashioned business has been transformed into a veritable goliath, embracing bankruptcy and merger divisions that Archibald Morgan had deemed ungentlemanly.

This is a great audiobook, I could hardly put it down.
The book shows the inside workings of a high powered D.C. lawfirm through the eyes of some of its associates and partners. Some of the characters are likeable and some are less so but all seem human, real, and very well developed.
Do not expect a high energy courtroom thriller though. Instead, this book leads the listener into the inner intricacies of the law, the lawfirm, and into the minds of the lawyers. In addition to the actual happenings, the characters tend to philosophise about their lives and the law, which makes this book somehow deeper and more gripping than the usual legal mysteries.
The reader was also very good and definitely added to the listening experience.

As World War II opens, Jessiersky, who detests the Nazis, is asked by his board of directors to acquiesce in the confiscation of a neighboring parcel of land in order to accommodate expanded war business. Jessiersky refuses to go along, but because of inattention or laziness his board carries out the land seizure behind his back.

Could not finish it
Revisado: 12-17-04
I am embarrassed to say this but this book bored me to tears. The story itself would be promising but it was written in such a way that nothing was truly explained except the boring and the irrelevant while the interesting parts were glossed over to leave it to the listener to fill in the blanks. Some parts were repeated and described in painstaking detail although they did not seem to hold any relevance to the story. What bothered me most, though, is the cold, almost clinical description of events by the author and the monotone narration. I know that this book is supposed to be a literary masterpiece with good reviews here and on Amazon, but I could not stay with the story (I tried) and did not finish the book. I recommend the Kite Runner instead for a truly enjoyable literary experience.

Great Listen
Revisado: 04-09-04
I loved this book from the very beginning till the end. The storyline, as well as the beautiful expression of thought and feeling pulled me inside the life of Alessandra and I could not wait to see what would happen next. I loved the narrrator's reading of the story too. While she did not get overly dramatic, the characters were clearly distinguishable and I could feel the emotions being played out in her tone of voice.
The book tells the story of an Italian girl coming of age during the end of the 15th century in Florence, Italy. She is a regular girl many of us can relate to from our own lives. It made me think of what my life would have been like, had I been born during those times.

Great Book
Revisado: 09-30-03
This book is packed full with valuable information on every aspects of spiritual liberation. For me, the "Science of Enlightenment" painted a clear picture about spirituality and reaching liberation. This book is basically a series of recorded lectures given by Shinzen Young, which made it as if the author were talking just to me, making up the answers to my personal questions. His style is very down to earth, funny, straight, and to the point. Listening to this book, I realized how much I did not know about what the concepts and terminology in the field of spirituality and enlightenment really meant (even after reading many books on the subject, as well as meditating, and practicing yoga for a number of years.)In "The Science of Enlightenment" Shinzen Young talks candidly about theroretical and practical aspects of meditation, different schools of thought and many apporoaches to traveling the path, as well as recommendations for personal practice to fit any lifestyle. The book also contains some guided mindfulness meditations, and guidance to everyone interested in enlightenment, regardless of their levels of experience. Even though the book is very long, it is well worth listening to (even repeatedly) because it is deep, useful, and relevant to all of our experiences. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

The best of Margolin (yet)
Revisado: 05-21-03
A prominent businessman is murdered in Portland, OR. It seems like an open and shut case until the evidence is looked at closer, and qestions emerge that must be answered. Who was the killer's real target? Why, and why now? Who stands to profit from this murder? As the events unfold, it becomes clear that nothing is at it seems. As with most other Margolin books, "The Undertaker's Widow" is fast paced, lively, and full of intrigue. I very much enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
