I found myself chuckling out loud during the first several chapters of this book! The subject matter got heavier as it went along, so the chuckles stopped, but I really loved Beth's writing style, wit, and representation of so many cultural and linguistic nuances. I would read another memoir of her childhood any day! the rest of the book was also good, just very different. Yes, there are Christian references (of course), but the writing is done well and neither conversion nor preaching are the intention nor the experience. just fair writing about one woman's experience.

Audio not an issue for me...

Yes, the audio sounds like it was recorded in a room full of people. But that's what you're agreeing to listen to, by way of the description of this offering. I could hear him speaking just fine, and the background noise is minimal, when heard at all.

While I found 'The Power of Now" to be influential and informative, the benefit of this offering is to hear the concepts discussed in a more conversational (and humorous) way. I thought of it as a "refresher course" of sorts.

This book has more surprises than the average novel. I did find it somewhat difficult to track the characters in the beginning (which might be because I listen while driving) but by the end - which is when it mattered most - I did not have that issue.

Great story... worth the unabridged version

This was a great recounting of a harrowing tale. I had already listened to the full-length version, and would highly recommend that version, as I was hooked to it through the end. I retrieved this from the plus catalog because the full version was so good, I was willing to listen again!

It was a great listen, and worth the purchase. To note, at several points, especially in the first several chapters, I found it difficult to follow who the characters were, where they were going, and which expeditions were being referenced. I found it helpful to search online for a map and some basic information to straighten out the details in my mind. Careful not to read through resou4ces ahead of my place in the book, it was helpful. A dramatic story.
