Historia
With his signature acerbic wit and hilarious voice, 20-something author, blogger, and entrepreneur Shane Burcaw is back with an essay collection about living a full life in a body that many people perceive as a tragedy. From anecdotes about first introductions where people patted him on the head instead of shaking his hand, to stories of passersby mistaking his able-bodied girlfriend for a nurse, Shane tackles awkward situations and assumptions with humor and grace.

Great book by an awesome guy.
Revisado: 04-10-20
Shane Burcaw is a great author, an excellent youtuber, and someone whose presence in my life via silly internet videos and now two books has made my life better. He always brings a smile to my face, and it has nothing to do with his SMA. Shane has such a wonderful sense of humor that leaps off the page in his books and radiates through the screen in his videos. I highly suggest this book, his first book Laughing at my Nightmare, his YouTube channel Squirmy and Grubs, and anything else he's involved in. His uplifting positivity and humor is a great distraction from all the chaos around us every day. Stop considering buying this book and just freaking do it! haha.

With acerbic wit and a hilarious voice, Shane Burcaw's Laughing at My Nightmare describes the challenges he faces as a 21-year-old with spinal muscular atrophy. From awkward handshakes to having a girlfriend and everything in between, Shane handles his situation with humor and a "you-only-live-once" perspective on life. While he does talk about everyday issues that are relatable to teens, he also offers an eye-opening perspective on what it is like to have a life threatening disease

This book is amazing.
Revisado: 04-09-20
Shane is so entertaining and a great author. I started watching Shane on YouTube about a year and a half ago. So, I finally got around to reading his books. While his story is encouraging and amazing, that is not what makes Shane an awesome guy and writer. He is funny, empathetic, kind, an amazing writer, and a quick wit. The fact that his story is so encouraging is just one of the many reasons why this book is awesome and worth reading. Definitely worth reading, and if you're interested, check out his youtube channel Squirmy and Grubbs.

Amazing Story from a man God has used immensely
Revisado: 03-20-20
I may be biased cause audio adrenaline played such a huge role in my life growing up, but this book is fantastic. Mark Stuart, a man whose words were the soundtrack to my growing faith as a youth, has grown to be a man I respect incredibly deeply through this book. His journey is raw, emotional, honest, and life changing. The same raw voice that spoke to me as a young kid just trying to find truth in the world has now come along side me and told me that it's ok that you struggle because I did too. Mark's journeys and struggles are presented in a beautiful way through his writing in this book. I highly recommend it to any Christian, not just fans of his music.

Historia
In this lively and compelling biography, Harlow Giles Unger reveals the dominant political figure of a generation. A fierce fighter in four critical Revolutionary War battles and a courageous survivor of Valley Forge and a near-fatal wound at the Battle of Trenton, James Monroe (1751 - 1831) went on to become America's first full-time politician, dedicating his life to securing America's national and international durability.

Excellent, but biased
Revisado: 03-15-17
While this book was very well written, informative, and entertaining, it becomes clear within the first few sentences that Unger idolizes Monroe and that the book will continuously praise and deeply discuss all of his positive aspects, while ignoring or brushing off some of his more negative ones. He largely discounts the accomplishments of many of the other founding fathers in an effort to make Monroe stand out as their superior. All that being said, it is still a very good book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good book
Revisado: 03-11-17
While this was a good biography, and it was performed well, it did not make Maddison come alive for me, like other biographies I have read of presidents. I have just finished reading Washington: A Life by Chernow, John Adams by McCullough, and Thomas Jefferson: The art of power by Meacham, and this book, while good, does not match up with those phenomenal biographies. I couldn't help but feel that there could've been more personal details. However, this book covers the facts very well and was still entertaining. I would definitely recommend the book if you want to read a book about Maddison specifically.

Wonderful story about a very complex man.
Revisado: 03-07-17
This book covers Jefferson's complex public and private lives in a masterful way. It paints a portrait of a man who was neither hero nor villain, neither true conservative nor true liberal, and neither true believer nor athiest. This paints the portrait of a man with many complicated, almost conflicting views, but who always had the greater good for the country he loved in mind. It was very even handed and a great read.

Brings Washington to life.
Revisado: 02-19-17
This book took a president, who is often times treated as an archaic statue sitting in a museum collecting dust, and brought the man to life in a vivid way. If you are looking for a book to truly get a grasp for who Washington was as a man, look no further. One of the best biographies I've ever read or listened to.

Historia
Why is America living in an age of profound economic inequality? Why, despite the desperate need to address climate change, have even modest environmental efforts been defeated again and again? Why have protections for employees been decimated? Why do hedge-fund billionaires pay a far lower tax rate than middle-class workers? The conventional answer is that a popular uprising against "big government" led to the rise of a broad-based conservative movement.

Wonderful book that tackles the greatest threat to American Democracy, the wealthy buying votes and distorting facts with partisan lies. The narrator was wonderful, as it felt like I was being read the book by the author. Well done all around.
