Historia
Named one of the top books of 2009 by the Times Literary Supplement (London), this controversial and compelling audiobook from Dr. Stephen C. Meyer presents a convincing new case for intelligent design (ID) based on revolutionary discoveries in science and DNA. Along the way Meyer argues that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution as expounded in The Origin of Species did not, in fact, refute ID.

Mind-blowing, Compelling, and Persuasive
Revisado: 12-09-24
This book takes a potentially complex topic and builds an easily understandable and compelling case for intelligent design. Through a building block approach, ample use of analogies, and quality diagrams in a PDF supplement, Stephen Meyer guides his reader/listener to an understanding of the science of intelligent design. Meyer does not refute Darwinism so much as explain the severe limits and inadequacies of random, unguided chance and evolution to account for to him for the origins of life. I cannot wait to read his subsequent book—Darwin’s Doubts!

China is killing Americans and working aggressively to maximize the carnage while our leaders remain passive and, in some cases, compliant. Why? If anyone could crack the code, it’s the renowned nonpartisan investigator Peter Schweizer. Schweizer’s previous three number one New York Times bestsellers sent shock waves through official Washington, sparking FBI investigations and congressional probes that continue to this day.

Essential Reading
Revisado: 07-28-24
Schweitzer presents a compelling and superbly documented case detailing the war Beijing is waging against America. Disturbingly, too many politicians and Washington bureaucrats are complicit in China’s war against the United States. Many of those politicians and bureaucrats have financial interests at stake in China. So Beijing gets away with pushing fentanyl, illegal weapons, subversive social media, propaganda, and deadly pathogens into our communities and homes. A must read for all Americans.

Chesterton’s Inimitable Style
Revisado: 06-01-24
So much more than a wonderful introduction to the life and philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas. Chesterton compares and contrasts Aquinas with St. Francis of Assisi, places Aquinas’s philosophy among other great philosophers ancient and modern, and juxtaposes Aquinas with St. Augustine. Chesterton’s erudition and inimitable style pour forth, and the reading by Guy Bethell seems a perfect fit.

Best book on Crises in Suez and Hungary 1956
Revisado: 04-20-24
The story is skillfully told from multiple perspectives—detailing views from Washington, London, Paris, Moscow, Cairo,Tel Aviv, and Budapest and weaving together accounts from political leaders, their political opponents, career diplomats, intelligence officers, journalists, and the military—participants and firsthand observers. Amazingly well done. Reads like a novel but is solid history with notes to back up every twist and turn of the story. Best single volume comprehensive account of a major inflection point in 20th century world affairs.

Statistics are everywhere, as integral to science as they are to business, and in the popular media hundreds of times a day. In this age of big data, a basic grasp of statistical literacy is more important than ever if we want to separate the fact from the fiction, the ostentatious embellishments from the raw evidence - and even more so if we hope to participate in the future, rather than being simple bystanders.

Historia
Democrats, the news media, and many leading Republicans immediately blamed the roughly four-hour disturbance on President Trump. The president “incited an insurrection”, the American pubic was told. But one year later, the original narrative of what happened that day has crumbled while hundreds of Americans have been swept up in an unprecedented investigation led by Joe Biden’s Justice Department to punish them for their involvement in the January 6 protest. The public has been misled - and flat-out lied to - about that day. This book exposes them all.

Revisado: 12-29-23
Julie Kelly’s revelations are true and verifiable. They blow up the prevailing narrative in the legacy media. It is frightening what is happening within the US Justice Department, and the FBI. One only hopes the full truth will come out sooner rather than later. January 6 was not an insurrection, it was the left’s burning of the Reichstag.

Historia
Whether pondering black holes or predicting discoveries at CERN, physicists believe the best theories are beautiful, natural, and elegant, and this standard separates popular theories from disposable ones. This is why, Sabine Hossenfelder argues, we have not seen a major breakthrough in the foundations of physics for more than four decades. The belief in beauty has become so dogmatic that it now conflicts with scientific objectivity: Observation has been unable to confirm mindboggling theories, like supersymmetry or grand unification, invented by physicists based on aesthetic criteria.

Revisado: 12-09-23
This book is ideal for anyone interested in physics, and especially for those with some science background who want more than the glib and shallow nonsense that usually finds its way onto television or into print media. The author takes a critical but fair look at the state of physics today. Some of the math references went over my head but even those were presented in a way that allowed the reader/listener to follow Dr. Hossenfelder’s argument. Suspect this is a book I’ll read again and cite.

Historia
Many Americans are finally waking up to the alarming reality of China's stealth war on the United States and puzzling over how to push back against its insidious infiltration. What few realize is that we have one real advantage in this war: the Chinese Communist Party strategy for total war has been written out in Unrestricted Warfare, the Chinese book, well known there, that has become their new Art of War. In War Without Rules, retired Air Force Brigadier General Rob Spalding takes Americans inside Unrestricted Warfare.

Historia
An immediate sensation when it was first published in two volumes in 1945, Popper's monumental achievement has attained legendary status on both the Left and Right and is credited with inspiring anticommunist dissidents during the Cold War. Arguing that the spirit of free, critical inquiry that governs scientific investigation should also apply to politics, Popper traces the roots of an opposite, authoritarian tendency to a tradition represented by Plato, Marx, and Hegel.

Revisado: 03-19-23
This book is timeless. It captures the essence of some of Popper’s other famous works (e.g., on The Poverty of Historicism and The Logic of Scientific Discovery). Its greatest contribution is its critique of Plato, Hegel, and Marx and in contrasting Open Societies—those in which the people can choose to change their political leaders—and Closed Societies—those in which political leaders hold all the power (i.e., authoritarian systems). It is THE essential book on political philosophy and is entirely relevant to our own times.

Historia
The Sino-American contest is driven by clashing geopolitical interests and a stark ideological dispute over whether authoritarianism or democracy will dominate the twenty-first century. But both history and China's current trajectory suggest that this rivalry will reach its moment of maximum danger in the 2020s. The Chinese challenge will most likely prove more manageable than many pessimists currently believe—but during the 2020s, the pace of Sino-American conflict will accelerate, and the prospect of war will be frighteningly real.

Brilliant analysis of America’s and China’s trajectories and how a China facing certain decline could well become a dangerous risk-taker threatening US vital interests. The book goes beyond merely defining Washington’s challenges in coping with China through the remainder of this decade—the danger zone; it also explores possible US responses and closes with 10 principles to guide America’s thinking and action.
