A Must Read Eye Opener For Every American
Revisado: 07-09-20
This stunning sequel to Stamped From The Beginning offers a powerful and honest examination about a topic that is front and center in America. This book tears down many myths about race and racism and gives us all a path forward for how to become a more united and more loving human family. I cannot recommend this book enough and I look forward to rereading it over the years to come. I look forward to Dr. Kendi's next publications.

Historia
For too long, scientists have focused on the dark side of our biological heritage: our capacity for aggression, cruelty, prejudice, and self-interest. But natural selection has given us a suite of beneficial social features, including our capacity for love, friendship, cooperation, and learning. Beneath all our inventions - our tools, farms, machines, cities, nations - we carry with us innate proclivities to make a good society.

Fantastic Merging of Evolution and Sociology
Revisado: 05-28-20
I love authors who are able to integrate multiple disciplines and Christakis does this masterfully here. If you're interesting in evolution and sociology then this is a must read! Bonus that it is read by the author, who adds great feeling and appropriate emphasis.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Gripping True Crime with Indigenous Spin
Revisado: 01-06-20
This is a very well told story with high production value and impressive sound design. I loved learning about indigenous Alaskan cultures and beliefs. The use of primary source audio was impressive and refreshing.

Historia
Nintendo has continually set the standard for video game innovation in America, starting in 1981 with a plucky hero who jumped over barrels to save a girl from an ape. The saga of Mario, the portly plumber who became the most successful franchise in the history of gaming, has plot twists worthy of a video game. Jeff Ryan shares the story of how this quintessentially Japanese company found success in the American market.

Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

Mind-blowing---be ready to unlearn everything
Revisado: 02-01-19
This book is amazing and I only wish I'd read it in high school, instead instead of my mid-30s. Every person who has any interest in American history should absolutely read this book. It should be the foundational text in high school US History courses. You will learn that 99% of the mainstream story of the history of the United States is false---and how that narrative continues to be used against you.

In When the Uncertainty Principle Goes to 11, physicist Philip Moriarty explains the mysteries of the universe's inner workings via drum beats and feedback: You'll discover how the Heisenberg uncertainty principle comes into play with every chugging guitar riff, what wave interference has to do with Iron Maiden, and why metalheads in mosh pits behave just like molecules in a gas.

Helps Humanities Guy Learn Some Physics
Revisado: 11-19-18
Although the mathematical equations discussed are just about impossible to visualize and comprehend via audio, the overall lessons are communicated wonderfully. I found myself laughing out loud several times at the author's wit and corny sense of humor. I learned a lot and it was a fun introduction to physics.

Historia
Derek Black grew up at the epicenter of white nationalism. His father founded Stormfront, the largest racist community on the Internet. His godfather, David Duke, was a KKK Grand Wizard. By the time Derek turned 19, he had become an elected politician with his own daily radio show - already regarded as the "the leading light" of the burgeoning white nationalist movement. "We can infiltrate," Derek once told a crowd of white nationalists. "We can take the country back." Then he went to college.

Excellent study of how America got to this point
Revisado: 10-10-18
Although nonfiction, this book reads more like a novel. Very engaging, well-written, and highly relevant to the current political climate. If you wish to better understand the white nationalist mindset (and how to potentially bring them to the light) then this is the book for you.
