Interesting story

I liked how it was read. Engaging story, too! Story pulls in genealogy and how families can find each other through DNA results, and you never know what kind of story you’ll find if you dig…

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
Depression rates around the world have skyrocketed in the 20‑plus years since Richard O'Connor first published his classic book on living with and overcoming depression. Nearly 40 million American adults suffer from the condition, which affects nearly every aspect of life, from relationships to job performance, physical health, productivity, and, of course, overall happiness. And in an increasingly stressful and overwhelming world, it's more important than ever to understand the causes and effects of depression, and what we can do to overcome it.

This book really helps me
Revisado: 08-12-23
Struggling to get to sleep is the reason I began listening to audiobooks. This book had quite a bit of new information for me. Now that I understand what antidepressants actually do, I’m not hesitant to take them - all of a sudden they’re easier to remember. Now I can see a path through and there’s hope I can and will get better.
Please, read or listen to this book if you’re struggling.

Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

The Perfect Book to Listen Before Sleep
Revisado: 07-11-23
The story is so engaging and creative. Love the special little girl and the relationship with her grandmother.
This is the best narrator I’ve heard here yet! I will eventually listen to every story she narrates.

Historia
Family is a stunning, often painfully graphic re-creation of the realities of slavery: black women raped by white masters; black children sold to sustain failing plantations - or to satisfy the whims of a petulant mistress; strong men humiliated, whipped, and beaten because of the color of their skin. But it is also the triumphant story of a mother whose loving spirit transcends the barriers of death and time, allowing her to watch over her children and her children’s children.

I hate when women ( readers) try to make “male voices” so fake.

Historia
Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At 19, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next 23 years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 12-12-22
I also have deep ties to Monsey from my greatgrandparents farm on Viola Rd. So her descriptions are a little slice of home.
Although our backgrounds are different, the essential emotional elements are the same. I wish I’d met Julia a long time ago. She’s strong and resilient- simply amazing story. I loved how she used her intelligence- asking “What exactly is the law?”
I’m listening to this over and over. I’ve learnt a lot.
This is the first time I’ve used the Audible notes function to mark and recall some passages. I will return for more!

I’m at a crossroads in life and I’m busy with listening to everything Bethenny. Bethenny provides actionable tools and concepts for building your own business. Sometimes I really don’t like when authors read their own books on audible, but Bethenny reads well, if a little faster than I’d like - seriously this book is addicting- not for bedtime because you’ll want to get up and DO something toward your next goal.
