Historia
It’s a war filled with larger than life characters. There will be sledging, accusations of cheating, theft and performance enhancing drugs. And allegations that Australia was cheated out of a Guinness World Record. In the process of charting the scandal-plagued race to breed the world’s hottest chilli, the audio documentary lifts the lid on the subculture of ‘Chilli-heads’, hardcore chilli fans spread across the globe who compete in chilli eating and breeding competitions.

Not well edited, needs tightening
Revisado: 08-04-19
Typically I like this king of thing - podcast-style reporting on quirky subcultures. But this was too long and was kind of boring because I got the points being made long before the audiobook stopped making them. I listened to the first 1/2 hour segment, then stopped.
With better editing, this might have been trimmed into an interesting 1 hour podcast. Unfortunately, listening to 2 1/2 hours more of this version wasn't worth the price of free.

Wish you knew how to walk up to anyone and break the ice effortlessly? Do you hope to avoid awkward silences and make an instant impression? You'll get more than that in this book: not only what, when, and how to say it, but the exact roots of why from human psychology and interaction.

full of cliches
Revisado: 05-10-19
So poorly written it was hard to listen to. Every other sentence was a cliche. Much of the advice was basic and OK I guess, but it was slanted towards businessmen trying to act like bros. Many of the suggestions for humor were passive aggressive or just plain mean. The suggestion to practice conversation on your barista shows a real lack of understanding of people - she really needs to get back to work but is required by her job to put up with you. The reader was fairly stiff.
I bought it for $3-4, but I'm not sure it was worth that.

Historia
An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

cliche filled and no suspense
Revisado: 03-24-12
The book is so based on melodramatic cliches and had so little complexity or suspense that I was totally annoyed, even though my politics align with Grisham's. Every character is either good or evil, every event has an obvious outcome based on the given morality. I normally like Grisham's books, but this one was boring. The NYT review called it a lecture, and that is what it is.
