Worth listening
Revisado: 06-06-23
This was a book of determination, perseverance, triumph and what women have to endure just to exist and make a living for themselves, without a man in their lives. It started off a little slow, but it was full of community support, forgiveness and introspection. Very insightful for that time period and encouraging on many different levels. I enjoyed it.

Hoda, I was thinking that you were asking the perfect questions, and then CeCe Winans said “you’re good at this,” because of a certain question you asked and I was like, “YEA SHE IS!” I really enjoyed this conversation and the inspiration it brought 💕. Thank you ❤️

I’m so Blessed to have listened
Revisado: 04-06-23
This was one of the best interviews I have listened to. These are Two of my Favorite Ladies and I was so entranced with every real, honest, vulnerable, hilarious and pain staking word. I learned a lot about Rosie. I watch Hoda everyday, all morning long, but I learned more about her today that shifted heart towards the knowledge of her pain and desires. Thank you Ladies! I love you

Historia
In 1969 Dixie Dupree is 11 years old and already an expert liar. Sometimes the lies are for her mama Evie's sake - to explain away a bruise brought on by her quick-as-lightning temper. And sometimes the lies are to spite Evie, who longs to leave her unhappy marriage in Perry County, Alabama, and return to her beloved New Hampshire. But for Dixie and her brother, Alabama is home, a place of pine-scented breezes and hot, languid afternoons.

Sad But True
Revisado: 04-03-23
I’ve seen this sickness my whole life, not from a brother, but other close family members, and friends of the family and just men I know; young and old. It’s passed down from generation to generation. I don’t believe there is a women I’ve come across who has not been sexually assaulted in some manner. Men have been doing heinous acts of violations to women since the Bible days, and I don’t see that ending. It is imperative to educate young girls, unfortunately, as early as 4 or 5 about inappropriate touching, and watch them.
Children are exposed to too much and natural instincts and imitation kicks in.
I could not at all relate to the first persons review and wondered what type of 11 year old they have been around who had less verbal and cognitive skills as Dixie. Everything was very age appropriate for her context and behavior, and how you thought she was just acting out, is beyond me.
I do know that fear, pride and desperation may cause you to make some irrational decisions, especially when your Children’s well being is in jeopardy, but considering all that happened to her, She should not have let Dixie out of her sight. for ONE second. Dixie should have slept with her, bathed with her and went to the bathroom every where she went!

Very Good Story
Revisado: 03-30-23
Everyone has different tastes and I get that, but this is a very good listen. It gets frustrating sometimes, when you think something is finally going to happen and it doesn’t, but the storyline is intriguing. It gives you a very good insight into the way institutions operated back then; How image matters more than family, dedication and love, which still happens to this day. Also, what lengths one will go thru to protect the ones they love and how people cover up devastating experiences for pride or fear.
The only thing that got on my nerves, like finger nails on a chalkboard, is that Dr. Roche should have had Nurse Trench’s voice and she should have had his. That mix up was totally ridiculous. Other than that, I really enjoyed the story.

I did NOT see that coming
Revisado: 03-28-23
The ending was a big surprise. I had to pick my jaw up off of the floor. I’m so glad I listened to the “Story Keeper” first, as I had no Idea these two books we’re connected when I chose to read “The Sea Keeper’s Daughter.” I did not recognize the Author’s name. I will from here on out though. This book was just as good as the first. And I can’t wait to read Others from Ms. Wingate.

Good Story
Revisado: 01-20-23
Fun storyline, wonderful characters and humorous family digs with, love forgiveness and redemption playing out through the story. I could have done without the descriptive sexual scenes and profanity but I guess some like it, and it wasn’t constant. You won’t be disappointed

So worth my credit
Revisado: 01-07-23
The story grips you from the beginning. After a while you think it would be predictable, but it was never as you thought, except for SOME of the doctors story. The twist and turns left my mouth hanging open and I NEVER saw the ending coming. This was a good mystery adventure of perseverance, forgiveness, introspection and sacrificial love. This is my second book by Mindy Starns Clark and I was not disappointed with either one. I shall be searching for more of them.
