Historia
This is the strange and fascinating life of Erwin Rommel, from his days as a youth in Imperial Germany - when he had a child out of wedlock with an early girlfriend - through his lauded military exploits during World War I to his death by suicide during World War II, after he attempted a failed coup against Hitler. Rommel was a man of contradictions: a soldier who wrote a best-selling book about World War I, a commander who went from commanding Hitler's bodyguard to trying to kill him, and a serious military mind who was known for participating in practical jokes.

Historia
As a Russian recruit in World War II, Ivan Makarov witnessed General Chuikov pull out his pistol and shoot their regimental commander as a traitor. That was on his first day at the front. Thrown into an open field to face German tanks and artillery fire, with only rifles and machine guns to defend themselves with, almost 2,000 men of his regiment were wiped out in only six days at the Eastern Front. At this rate, Ivan struggled to comprehend how he would survive the hundreds of battles that lay before him, with death seeming to be the only certainty.

Good war story bad story telling
Revisado: 03-17-23
I liked it overall it's good war story and insight from Soviet soldier however.... personally I really hated the accent I rather to have it narrated in normal English accent it had the opposite effect of what intended...

Historia
In December 2003, after one of the largest, most aggressive manhunts in history, US military forces captured Iraqi president Saddam Hussein near his hometown of Tikrit. Beset by body-double rumors and false alarms during a nine-month search, the Bush administration needed positive identification of the prisoner before it could make the announcement that would rocket around the world. At the time John Nixon was a senior CIA leadership analyst who had spent years studying the Iraqi dictator.

Am an Iraqi and this book is fascinating!
Revisado: 06-03-22
For the a starter, hearing the writer himself tell the story is amazing and I am glad it was told by the man himself it added needed emotional connection to feel the book!
the book helped me fill so much blanks regarding my country I was born in 1997 and throughout my childhood and the war I couldn't understand it, more importantly could not understand why we were sacrificed like that, am pro-democracy person and I truly hate Saddam because he who got us into this mess, but same blame on US administration who handle Iraq with an absolute criminal disregard and. incompetence in my book, thing would of have been so much better if they handle it with much needed thought on what to do next....
I thank John Nixon for this fascinating book and his fair insight,
Great book
Great story telling
I would listen again and recommend it for sure!!!
