Historia
Rick Atkinson recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. From the battles at Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter 1777, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force. Full of riveting details and untold stories, The British Are Coming is a tale of heroes and knaves, of sacrifice and blunder, of redemption and profound suffering. Rick Atkinson has given stirring new life to the first act of our country’s creation drama.

Can’t wait for Vol 2 and 3
Revisado: 09-13-19
Fantastically written and performed story. As great as it was to listen to, I’m somewhat disappointed because Vol 2 and 3 aren’t out yet and I’m craving more.
It’s at the top of my best books written and performed list for sure.

Historia
Until the late 1960s, tens of thousands of American children suffered crippling birth defects if their mothers had been exposed to rubella, popularly known as German measles, while pregnant; there was no vaccine and little understanding of how the disease devastated fetuses. In June 1962, a young biologist in Philadelphia, using tissue extracted from an aborted fetus from Sweden, produced safe, clean cells that allowed the creation of vaccines against rubella and other common childhood diseases.

A Truly Fascinating Story
Revisado: 04-17-19
This book is a wonderful history and story.
The level of scientific exploration, work, and drive that it takes for dedicated researchers to come up with a vaccine is wonderfully woven into the history, personal accounts, and cost of disease outbreaks and their harm.
To those who doubt the power and safety of vaccines, listen to the book. To those who doubt their effectiveness and impact on human health and relief if of suffering within your lifetime, listen to the book. To those who want to know what it takes to develop and make a vaccine for the planet, whether a scientist, scientifically inclined, or not, listen to the book. You will NOT be disappointed.
The performance was high quality. My only small notes were that the narrator’s voice, on occasion, sounds like a GPS and there were occasional mispronunciation of scientific terms.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Engaging Story and Performance
Revisado: 02-11-19
One of those audiobooks where you hope for traffic so you can finish the chapter you are on or start a new one.
The story is great. Fascinating tale of how charisma helped pull the wool over lots of eyes until it was all torn down. To that point, it’s a reminder of how important it is for “regular employees” to speak up when they know something just isn’t right or is illegal. A reminder too about how important good investigative journalism is to keeping people safe.
Solid narrating performance overall. Good inflection and seriousness when needed. Occasional shifts to “feminine whisper voice” were unnecessary and kinda hokey but not detrimental to the overall performance.

Historia
Here is the first insider account of the precipitous fall of Hillary Clinton. How the scandals of a lifetime finally reached critical mass. How, in the last few days of the campaign, some on her staff saw the ghostly shroud of defeat creeping over them but were helpless to act, frozen by the self-denial of the group.

Probably not what you are after
Revisado: 07-02-17
First, it's read by the author. I've been burned before by this mistake and this one burned me again. Authors write narrators narrate. They should have stuck to that model for this book.
Second, overall, I was quite disappointed by this book. It's quite one-sided and basically goes like this:
1/2 of book: Clintons are dirty and have been for 30 years. Here's a huge list of their scandals.
1/4 of book: Trump is Mr Real Estate in Manhattan. He took $ his dad gave him and successfully became a self made awesome real estate guy.
1/4 of book: Trump beat Hillary in the election. P.S. he said some inappropriate things during the election but let's not talk about that or any shady things he may have done in his life.
Unfortunately, you don't realize that nothing on Trump and his skeletons will be included until it's too late.
I'd recommend "Shattered" if you are looking for a book with some good insight into and story of the Clinton election campaign. It's quite good.

Historia
Richard Nixon opens with young navy lieutenant "Nick" Nixon returning from the Pacific and setting his cap at Congress, an idealistic dreamer seeking to build a better world. Yet amid the turns of that now legendary 1946 campaign, Nixon's finer attributes quickly gave way to unapologetic ruthlessness. It is a stunning overture to John A. Farrell's magisterial portrait of a man who embodied postwar American cynicism.

Excellent read on Nixon
Revisado: 07-02-17
Having been born after Nixon, I was looking for a good story on this figure who is so famous (or infamous I guess). This book absolutely filled the bill. It covered so much in just the right level of detail. It was NOT simply Watergate and covered his life from WWII to the resignation in a perfect amount of detail.
I learned so much about RN that I never knew and found his story fascinating. So many accomplishmets essentially erased by a really bad mistake.
If you are interested in RN, I highly recommend!

It was never supposed to be this close. And of course she was supposed to win. How Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump is the tragic story of a sure thing gone off the rails. For every Comey revelation or hindsight acknowledgment about the electorate, no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary's campaign - the candidate herself.

Revealing Account of "What went wrong."
Revisado: 06-19-17
As I moved through this book, I found myself thinking, "C'mon, get to the Presidential election already." as a significant portion of the book focused on the primary battle with Sanders. However, I quickly realized that so much time was spent there because that's where the errors we made, never recognized, and never corrected.
I found the stories of dysfunction fascinating. I gained quite a bit of insight into how it all didn't come unraveled but how it was never there to start.
I enjoyed both the story in this book and the performance of it and highly recommend.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

A must read biography of one of the most influential Founding Fathers
Revisado: 08-11-09
Honestly, there is so much in this book that is fantastic that it can't be captured. Really this review is this long just to fulfill the word requirement as all I can say is you MUST listen to this book.
You will enjoy the flawless and masterful performance of Scott Brick and the superb story from Chernow. And, like me, you will listen to it multiple times for years to come.
