Historia
While many accounts of the Buddha’s life mix legend and history, this compelling new biography discriminates between fact and fiction to reveal Gautama, the remarkable human being behind the myth, and sheds new light on his teachings. Plunging us into the noises, smells and jostling streets of Gautama’s world, Vishvapani Blomfield brings the Buddha to life as a passionate and determined individual - a strikingly modern figure who rejected contemporary beliefs.

Brilliant book and excellent narration!
Revisado: 03-07-19
This audiobook has all that I was looking for - history and life of the Buddha, interpretations of his teachings, history of Buddhism and its spread across Asia. The author describes himself as a practising Buddhist, but is careful to separate out historical facts from legends and myths that could have crept into the literature over time. Thus, we get a nearly objective history of the religion from someone within the religion - a difficult feat! I am an Indian, and am pleasantly surprised by the narrator’s grasp over names of places and people here that could normally be tongue twisters to westerners.
Would highly suggest keeping a map of North India handy and trace the journeys of the Buddha though various cities of North India.

Great comprehensive book for running beginners
Revisado: 01-06-16
I've been an occasional runner for a couple of years but recently started taking up the exercise seriously. Was looking for a good tutorial to coach myself in spare time and came across this audible book.
This is quite comprehensive covering diverse topics like running techniques, diet, clothing, choosing the right shoe, safety and injuries etc. Have seen a good improvement in my own performance while I was reading the book (went from 2k to 5k endurance within a couple of months). Highly recommended for all beginners.

Good sci fi but bad thriller
Revisado: 10-28-15
The overarching alien concept in the story is new and refreshing, and gives a new perspective to most things we assume in life.
But the screenplay is unexciting. The protagonists have it way too easy, are unusually lucky and seem to have supernormal power that borders on a kids fantasy story. A few disappointments thrown in for the lead characters would have made the story a lot more realistic
Narration was top notch. Full marks for that

Historia
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

Brilliant course but delivery could be better
Revisado: 10-07-15
I found this a very good course to come up to speed on these esoteric topics for a non-scientist like me.
At first I thought the lecturer sounded more like a commentator in a sport/match, with frequent speeding up of words. But I realised this is his passion for the subject showing. By the third lecture I got used to this and it was fun.
One major drawback for listeners in audible on IPhone, is that the lecturer appears to use a lot of diagrams and objects during the lecture. We just get to listen. I'm sure I've missed out on the correct understanding of a few concepts because of this visual handicap. I think the course was designed as a video but we get to hear only the soundtrack here.

Historia
How is it possible for the disciplines of cosmology, geology, anthropology, biology, and history to fit together? These 48 lectures answer that question by weaving a single story from accounts of the past developed by a variety of scholarly disciplines. The result is a story stretching from the origins of the universe to the present day and beyond, in which human history is seen as part of the history of our Earth and biosphere, and the Earth's history, in turn, is seen as part of the history of the universe.

A History Course Like None You've Ever Taken
- De Tommy D'Angelo en 02-05-17
Brilliant and wide ranging
Revisado: 09-04-15
While I have gone through history books/ courses in the past, all of them dealt with specific topics and time frames. I used to feel the need for a course combining multiple disciplines. This course beautifully combines disciplines as varied as geology, space-time, biology, anthropology - and you don't even know when the narration is moving from one discipline to another. Further, unlike other history courses which are west/Europe-America centric, this one is truly global in perspective (you almost cannot figure out the narrators place of origin except at the few instances where he talks of his childhood experiences)
The only areas of improvement I could think of :
1) 25 hrs is a bit too long for any course. I almost discontinued the course twice in between as I felt the discussions were going round in circles
2) while we understand the narrators urge to celebrate the various scientists and philosophers whose work has been used in the course, spending lot of time in praising these scientists takes time away from actual focus on the content
