Historia
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

It’s just fluff
Revisado: 01-15-23
I’m not even finished yet but I’m tired of the overly romantic content. Not realistic. I would rather listen to a book with real relationships. So tired of “he’s so perfect” which of course you know he is not. It’s entertaining but I won’t be listening to the prequel.

This is something I never would have thought I would enjoy so much. Great characters with lots of flaws. They are all so different that it causes you to think of so many different perspectives. Wish there was more.

Not an uplifting story
Revisado: 09-19-21
This was entertaining and well written but I don’t think I would read another book by this author. I knew it couldn’t be going anywhere good but still a slightly uplifting ending would have been nice.

Historia
Assistant District Attorney Butch Karp is finally recognized for his heroic service to New York City when a group of politicians back him for the top job as Manhattan's district attorney. But a series of cases involving vigilante murders begins to reveal the true motives of those civil servants standing by his side. It's Karp versus the dirty city in one of Tanenbaum's most revealing and caustic legal thrillers - a stunning indictment of civil corruption and overreach.

Couldn’t get past the language, sexism, racial stereotypes and police brutality. I know this was written in a different time but readers should be aware. On the other hand it’s good to see how far we have come.

I enjoyed this book for a while. Then I just got tired of the repeating pattern of a woman who could not stand up for herself. The story became too annoying.

After recently having listened to Under a Scarlet Sky and The Nightingale I didn't really want to deal with the pain of another WW2 story but this was different. I loved the spiritual aspect and also the uplifting ending. A really good story with a positive message.

Entertaining but at times very annoying
Revisado: 11-02-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book is overall a good read but has a lot of issues. My first impression is that the author took on too much with this project and fell short in numerous ways. It was inaccurate and misleading from a medical perspective, and probably from a legal perspective too. She seemed to do a lot of research into newborn jargon and acronyms, but missed the target on the actual cause of the infants death. I am a former obstetrical and neonatal nurse and I never quite got it. By the way, the "Florence Nightingale Pledge" that she quotes is completely fabricated and nothing like the original. The portrayal of the hospital risk manager and prosecutor were out of the realm of reality. It was a very unlikely case to have been prosecuted as murder.
I could continue to enumerate the annoying inaccuracies and improbabilities but you get the picture. The characters were more like "caricatures". The fact that one of the most flawed character had a sudden transformation at the end was a little hard to believe.
The book is entertaining, and does make the reader think about race relations from a slightly different perspective, and for that reason is worthwhile. It would have been better if it was a little more subtle, inspiring thought, rather than making the reader think they were hit on the head with a sledge hammer.
What did you like best about this story?
Kennedy was probably the best character.
Was Small Great Things worth the listening time?
Yes
