Historia
Ariel and Tomah have lived in the city’s intertribal housing complex all their lives. But for both of them, this Dagwaagin (Autumn) season is different than any before. From his bench outside the front door of his building, Tomah watches his community move around him. He is better at making people laugh than he is at schoolwork, but often it feels like his neighbor Ariel is the only one who really sees him, even in her sadness.

A word dance, a song of spoken words.

The beat, the rhythm, and the repetition, like a dance that is part of the story itself through its words, it's cadence, it's flow. It makes your heart and your soul beat along with, immersing you into the story, into the characters, and makes you glad.

The voice, the writer's voice.

I loved this book. It is one of those beautiful books that span the age range of tween, to young adult, to adult. It is both beautifully read aloud and silently. I was delighted and marveled at the nuanced intricacies, and the multi layers of description, insight, and commentary by the main character. And yet it did not weigh the story down. It flowed beautifully, and gave one a sense of a warm fall evening with a slight breeze, sitting on the porch sharing stories curled up on overstuffed wicker chairs and lounges. A wistful, twilight time of thought and musing. Truly delightful.
