On the run and labeled a traitor, Rani must travel the city streets, masquerading through her kingdom's strict castes as she attempts to discover the actual assassin. story is mediocre-at-best and narrator is lifeless

I really struggled to finish this. the dark overtones are good sometimes, but the characters are pretty bland and the Mystery elements are contrived and over-complicated. a lot of the times when the character came to conclusions I found myself going, " well that's a leap in logic." Rani is a bit boring and kind of serves as a self insert. the whole novel reads like a slightly darker young adult novel, but without the charming characters and story that follows. it's made all the worse by the fact that the narrator is probably the most lifeless narrator that I've ever come across on here. there was a lot of potential but in the end this book falls flat.
