Historia
This classic war memoir, first published in 1920, is based on the author's extensive diaries describing hard combat experienced on the Western Front during World War I. It has been greatly admired by people as diverse as Bertolt Brecht and Andre Gide, and from every part of the political spectrum. Hypnotic, thrilling, and magnificent, The Storm of Steel is perhaps the most fascinating description of modern warfare ever written.

Good overall review of everything.
Revisado: 06-11-15
Strategy is a very general and multifaceted topic ranging from military to personal relations and politics.
This book attempts to do almost impossible - to cover all aspects of Strategy and how it evolved throughout human history.
I would think this book is successful in doing so but as a side effect this book is long covering a range of subjects.
Readers with different backgrounds might like some subjects better then others.
I think I came out with better understanding of how complex and multifaceted topic of Strategy is after going through this audiobook.

Historia
Virtually all human societies were once organized tribally, yet over time most developed new political institutions which included a central state that could keep the peace and uniform laws that applied to all citizens. Some went on to create governments that were accountable to their constituents. We take these institutions for granted, but they are absent or are unable to perform in many of today’s developing countries—with often disastrous consequences for the rest of the world.

Good philosophical work on political order
Revisado: 10-16-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Origins of Political Order: From Prehuman Times to the French Revolution to be better than the print version?
Yes
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
One have to have some philosophical inclinations to like this book.
The main philosphical question which is being brought up in this book:
Are the founding principles of social order. Why humans are willing to give up some of their freedoms for security and order of society.
Also if humans are naturally good behaved if not restrained by law and order or not.
There is no one definite answer to this question.
Any additional comments?
The analysis of different types of social order was interesting but sometimes it seems that detailed historical references brought little value or point to the book.

Best-selling author and renowned religious scholar Karen Armstrong presents a concise and articulate history of Islam, the world's fastest-growing faith. Beginning with the Prophet Muhammad's flight from Medina and concluding with an examination of modern Islamic practices and concerns, Armstrong delivers an unbiased overview. She contends that no religion is more feared and misunderstood by the Western world as Islam, and firmly challenges the notion that these two civilizations are on a collision course.

What did you love best about Islam?
History of Islam
What did you like best about this story?
It gave me better understanding of founding principles and history of Islam as a religion.
Any additional comments?
I can say that even after listening this book I'm still confused about differences between different fractions in Islam and why they keep fighting each other to the death.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The book is a view of events before Soviet Union fall from an author view who lived in Poland it seems. So what you get is really detailed view of events in Poland and Eastern Germany and very high level information of events and characters in Russia where main
events leading to Sovietn Union fall actually happened.
I can say it since I was just a boy growing up in Far East of Russia when perestroika started.
What this book fails to mention is an economin collapse, hyperinflation and default which happened when those "wise leaders" like Gorbachev decided to switch to capitalism economy overnight.
Then again any revolution comes at a cost - I don't see any country in recent years where people became better off after the revolution. Just look at Ukraine.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There are no favorite characters in this story.

Historia
The audiobook describes the development of Ukraine's nationalist groups since 1991 until present day. It focuses on the history of the parliamentary right-wing radical Svoboda party and the nonparliamentary Right Sector movement. The authors study the ideology, psychology, and methods of political struggle of these structures. The experts seek to answer the question: How did the radical neo-Nazi groups manage to become the key driving force behind the Ukrainian revolution?

Explanation of events which led to Euromaidan
Revisado: 08-29-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this audiobook who wants to understands the history of political movements in Ukraine and underlying reasons which led to Euromaidan revolution and an ongoing civil war in Ukraine.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This is History book with many characters.
What does Jack Chekijian bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jack Chekijian clear voice and perfect diction makes it easy to follow storyline in this audiobook. In just over 7 hours listener receives a volume of information and gains understanding of events available to very few analysts.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I found history of Right Sector partuculary interesting.
Also when you listen to Manifesto in appendix chapter - you will find many parallels to ideas once expressed by Adolf Hitler about super race and clearing Europe from all inferior races.
And then you realize the danger of such ideas taking hold even in modern day and age.
Any additional comments?
The book “Neonazis & Euromaidan” was presented in many major cities in Europe – Brussel, Berlin, Paris, Moscow, Warsaw, Athens. And in some cities the book was presented twice. The book was also (presented) announced in both European and Russian parliaments.
Since its first presentation, the authors never faced a single instance of criticizm on the subject and content of this book. However, almost all book presentations were accompanied/confronted by provocations of some EU residents supporting new Ukrainian government. Sometimes circumstances led to us to change time and places of the meetings with readers. On the contrary, the other group of people, who originally came from Eastern Ukraine, and now live in EU, visited our presentations and thanked us for informing the public about the tragic events that are taking place in their homeland.
Public interest to this book by Europeans, who want to know an alternative to the one-sided view of the events presented by the mainstream media, have been great resulting in the second edition of “Neonazis & Euromaidan” being sold out in just one month.
The latest, or the third, edition of the book practically presents the same material, as in its previous edition, but it is updated with more reference materials to the sources of information found in the book. This references should help any interested reader, or a researcher, to expend further on the information found in the book through their own research on this topic.
We dedicate this last edition of the book to the memory of all those who died in imposed civil war in Ukraine that started shortly after “Euromaidan”.

Historia
The future of our society depends on our gifted children - the population in which we’ll find our next Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, or Virginia Woolf. Yet the gifts and talents of some of our most brilliant kids may never be recognized because these children fall into a group known as twice exceptional, or "2e". Twice exceptional kids are both gifted and diagnosed with a disability - often ADHD or an Autism Spectrum Disorder - leading teachers and parents to overlook the child’s talents and focus solely on his weaknesses. Too often, these children get lost in a cycle of chasing diagnostic labels and are never given the tools to fully realize their potential.

Didn't learn much from this book.
Revisado: 11-07-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Parents of kids with high functioning autism (aspergers) seeking public support.
What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?
This book is an intersection of scientific research and mostly legalities related to classification of autism and advocating for government/public support for high functioning autism. The language and the way it's written makes it a very boring read/listen even for a parent who has autistic child. It seems the only goal of this book is to advocate for more public support which is a good goal. However the book feels dry and not engaging enough. I couldn't finish it.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Vanessa Hart?
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
confusion and slight disappointment.

Historia
How remarkable that an Italian living in the 15th and 16th centuries should lend his name to a word still in common usage in the English language today. Nicolo Machiavelli (1469-1527) wrote only one major work as a gift for his ruling Prince, Lorenzo de Medici. Machiavelli held office as a senior civil servant for 14 years until the downfall of the Republic in 1512. No longer officially employed to impart advice, instead Machiavelli poured out his ideas and resentment in his writings.

Those who can't teach
Revisado: 08-12-13
While a classic book, I always have to remind myself that this book was written by a bitter failed military commander who was trying to win favors by writing this book to a prince.
Some of it is good, not all of it is true.
