Not a Stand Alone Book
Revisado: 01-25-14
My fault, I did not notice that this was part of a series. IMHO, this book can't stand alone as there is really no rhyme or reason for where it starts or leaves off except, of course, length. I give the author some credit for weaving in enough of the back story that it makes sense (although I can sympathize with those listeners who found it dull and boring) but I feel miffed that the book doesn't make sense as a book. Should be marketed as "must buy the next if you want any plot sense". Maybe even "you will have a better time if you have read the lead up books". Sometimes the amount of detail was overwhelming. A bit too graphic for me from the violence point of view. And I "barred" my teeth when I realized that there was going to be a buffalo hunt as I anticipated (correctly) that the level of gory detail was going to be close to unbearable. So much detail and yet it was missing the crux of the matter (what the heck was the Change?). I docked stars for that and for the fact that without more knowledge of that, I found the state of people quite advanced and orderly after such few short years post apocalypse. Summary: good characters, good world building up to a point, burdened by detail at the expense of plot.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

A complete and total wow experience
Revisado: 09-25-13
I am so grateful I picked this edition: I am now a diehard Juliet Stevenson fan. I was already a George Eliot fan but after Middlemarch I think "fan" is too light and fluffy a word. Taking a break from Eliot for awhile, the experience was so intense (and rather long) but the next book I chose I chose from Stevenson's performances. It is not just her voice but her intelligent reading of the text. Cannot say enough good things about either this book or this reader.

Unraveling the madness behind L.A.’s most baffling and brutal homicides is what sleuthing psychologist Alex Delaware does best. And putting the good doctor through his thrilling paces is what mystery fiction’s #1 bestselling master of psychological suspense Jonathan Kellerman does with incomparable brilliance. Kellerman’s universally acclaimed novels blend the addictive rhythms of the classic police procedural with chilling glimpses into the darkest depths of the human condition. For the compelling proof, look no further than Victims....

Maybe enough
Revisado: 02-18-13
Maybe I have read enough Kellerman. I have to say that the last one I thoroughly enjoyed was Billy Straight. Maybe I am just tired of the trio. But the plot seemed to be way way way out there and halfway through the second part I realised I just didn't care anymore. Certainly not enough to listen to the end. This was the first time I found the narration a little off. I think narration is quite subjective so that is only my perception. All in all, I won't waste time finishing it, not even to while away the daily commute. I am postive that there is better stuff out there.

Narration is perfect!
Revisado: 02-18-13
The 87th Precinct was the first police procedural serial I ever read and that was at least three decades ago. I laughed the minute I heard the narrator: perfect voice for the book! To be sure, some age wrinkles show through as well might be expected but nonetheless, one heck of a good listen and incredibly tense at the end. My first thriller in audiobook form and I realised that in book form, I would have sped read to get to the end but no can do with audio, I had to sit and wait, wait, wait for everything to turn out. Would have given it five stars but have decided to keep 5 stars in reserve for books that knock my socks right off (which is why performance did get 5, Dick Hill could not have been better).
