Awesome Story!
Revisado: 09-02-24
My wife and I just finished listening to the entire series. We usually listened on our frequent long trips across the state. The books kept us enthralled from beginning to end. We’ve loved so many books by Mr. Kuntz, and the delivery by this narrator was wonderful. The only disappointment was that eventually the plot is resolved and the story must come to an end.

There’s been a breakthrough on the campus of Caltech. A discovery. An invention. One so startling and surprisingly sinister that the inventor can’t tell a soul. Precariously poised at the center of the action is Victoria Pixler, a bioengineering student with a tragic past, a passionate quest, and a brilliant mind. After a decade of dedication, she’s just completed her life’s work only to have her dream shattered and her career terminated - by the least likely suspect.

Good Book, but really regret getting an abridged story
Revisado: 07-31-23
I’m glad I got the audiobook and did enjoy it. The narration was very good. I enjoyed the author’s writing style overall and his approach to a very intriguing “what if”, but there were (for lack of a better term) gaps in the background, relationships and character development that caught my attention and nagged me starting just a few chapters in. Sometimes authors will reveal a plot through the first couple chapters and backfill some of the backstory. The author did touch on these issues, but it felt more like a footnote than an explanation. It made it harder to resonate with the main character’s dilemma or even care about the bad things that happened to those close to her.
THEN after the last chapter wraps things up the author inserted a note listing out ALL of those disappointing “gaps” and reveals that he had actually extracted each of those chapters out on purpose…but (now that you’ve finished the book)…you can check them out on his website for free.
No thanks. To me that would be the epitome of anticlimactic.
I really regret that he took those several chapters out! I’d like to think that some jerk of an editor/publisher MADE him, because I think I’d like to try out more of his books. Like I said, good story overall…but MAN!!
Those gaps!

Laudable Pursuit is an examination of the state of freemasonry in the United States and a plan of action for rejuvenating lodges in the 21st century. Based on topics raised in the 1960s by renowned Masonic author and Indiana past grand master Dwight L. Smith, and then promptly ignored by the fraternity, this new work is intended as a starting point for the future direction of freemasonry.

"Something is murdering my men." Thus reads the message received from a Nazi commander stationed in a small castle high in the remote Transylvanian Alps. Invisible and silent, the enemy selects one victim per night, leaving the bloodless and mutilated corpses behind to terrify its future victims. When an elite SS extermination squad is dispatched to solve the problem, the men find something that's both powerful and terrifying. Panicked, the Nazis bring in a local expert on folklore - who just happens to be Jewish - to shed some light on the mysterious happenings.

Enjoyable, not very suspenseful
Revisado: 02-03-22
I enjoyed 'the Keep' overall. The author took a few interesting twists in building the backstory and letting you get glimpses of it gradually. It gave it an interesting pace that kept me intrigued.
I usually enjoy when a narrator takes the time to do very distinct voices, distinguishing between one character and another. Mr. Lister (kinda fun to say) did a very good job at doing German and Romanian accents: BUT, in doing so it made it difficult to distinguish when the daughter and father were speaking, as they came out very similarly.

Historia
Ancient and classical societies have always had an ideal of manhood. In Japan, the samurai cultivated not only the art of the sword, but also poetry, calligraphy, and spiritual practice. In Confucianism, the ideal man was the Chun-Tzu (the Higher Man), who cultivated both the arts of war and the arts of peace. And in medieval Europe, the knight lived by the comparable code of chivalry. Such men, considered both warriors and mystics, exemplified wholeness. Yet today, men exist in a chaotic world without role models, guidance, or a sense of the sacred masculine.

Powerfully Thought-Provoking !
Revisado: 01-15-22
I've really enjoyed taking in Mr. Millar's book "The Path of the Warrior-Mystic". My favorite podcast, "The Art of Manliness", had him on as a guest. I'm SO glad I looked up his works.
I highly recommend this book / audiobook (I also got the Kindle book once I realized I'd want to take notes) to anyone (man or woman) who wants to think more deeply about their life.
I was amazed to find that Mr. Millar and I have so many interests in common, we're both freemasons and martial artists. This book struck deep notes from both of these sources as well as many other.
This is a book I know I'll be reading and rereading for years.
