More Christian Than Legal Thriller
Revisado: 03-25-23
I bought this as a Daily Deal — generally a good way to sample authors I haven’t read. It looked like an interesting legal thriller. However, it was basic Christian literature — almost all prayer and little legal or thriller. If you’re a fan of Christian lit, you might enjoy it. If you’re a fan of mysteries and thrillers, you might want to skip it.

Miss the narrator from the first two books !
Revisado: 11-08-22
I adore this series and really like the characters. My only complaint is the new narrator for book three. She whispers when she reads and I keep having to go back to figure out what she said. It obviously affects my experience as a listener. I do hope there will be many more books in the series, but either a new narrator or someone will coach this one to please not swallow her words!

Wow. Just wow. I’ve read almost all of Lisa Scottoline’s books and enjoy her as a writer. This book is at a whole new level. I was immersed in WWII Rome and felt I knew the characters. I also learned a lot — all while being carried away by the story. I highly recommend!

Revisado: 01-09-22
I have been a Donna Ball fan for some time. Her Rain Stockton series is very, very good and her Dogleg Island series is even better. I highly recommend them both. As terrific as those series are, this book is at a whole new level. The pace is fantastic, the sense of place is perfect, and the characters are beautifully developed. This reads like a best-seller. I hope it receives the attention it deserves!

I was looking for something cheerful and cozy, but have grown weary of books that seem to just rush through the regular formula. I got this book based on the great reviews— and am so glad I did! The writing is excellent, the characters well-defined, and I felt I was in the inn during a Vermont snowstorm. I’d like to see more from this author! I highly recommend this one!

I LOVE this series! The dog, the human characters, the sense of place, the action scenes, the real emotion. This is a great series for dog lovers, but also just a great series. My only regret is now I have a long wait until the next book comes out!
I highly recommend both this series and the author’s Raine Stockton books.

Historia
Aggie Malone is a dedicated young cop who has spent her entire life just looking for a place to call home. She never thought she'd find it in a quaint Florida village called Dogleg Island, where almost nothing ever happens. Deputy Ryan Grady is an easygoing playboy who carries a surf board in the trunk of his patrol car and lives in the same rambling beach cottage his grandfather built 70 years ago. He grew up on Dogleg Island and can't imagine ever living anywhere else. It's always been the most peaceful place he has ever known.

Fantastic Series!
Revisado: 05-09-21
I waited a long time before listening to this series. I was extremely skeptical of plots turning on a dog’s deductions. But these books are great! The author is very knowledgeable about dog behavior and the insights into the dog’s mind are plausible. The writing is terrific. The characters are likable and smart.
I do agree with the criticism about the narrator— her voice is monotone and it’s hard to keep track of dialogue because her voice doesn’t change. Happily, the subsequent books in the series have a much better narrator.
If you like dogs, you will love this series. If you like characters-driven mysteries, you will love this series.

Historia
LAPD Homicide Lieutenant Milo Sturgis is a master detective. He has a near-perfect solve rate, and he’s written his own rule book. Some of those successes - the toughest ones - have involved his best friend, the brilliant Psychologist Alex Delaware. But Milo doesn’t call Alex in unless cases are "different". This murder warrants an immediate call. Milo’s independence has been compromised as never before, as the department pressures him to cater to the demands of a mogul: a hard-to-fathom, megarich young woman who is obsessed with reopening the coldest of cases.

Jonathan Kellerman’s novels are consistently wonderful — book after book, year after year. This book is no exception. The plot is interesting, the characters engaging, and the writing is great. As always. I can’t think of another author who has had a series that has maintained such high quality for so many books. Each is a gem!
