Weak story, not as thrilling as expected, but listened to the whole thing because I was on a 12-hour road trip.
Revisado: 06-02-24
I had watched The Firm movie years ago and enjoyed that so When I was looking for a audiobook to listen to on a road trip, I thought this would be a good one for my wife and I to listen to since we both knew the backstory and would be something we could both get into. Unfortunately, the story gets started really slowly and the author focuses on a lot of mundane facts. For example, Mitch returning to Memphis seems almost irrelevant when you reach the conclusion of the story and so much time spent on that portion of the book. Parts of the plot had no point and then others were not wrapped up at the end. I’ll admit we were yelling at some of the characters for the decisions they were making. The narrator’s attempt at female voices was particularly ineffective and made them sound weak and whiny. John Grisham loyalists might enjoy this but it seems like one of his weaker and lazier books.

Andrew’s journey combined with the lessons learned along the way were inspiring, insightful, and in some ways surprising. It was refreshingly open, authentic and vulnerable. He was open about how luck has sometimes seemed to play a role in his success, but also how much hard work, practice, planning and thought are essential as well. I’m older than Andrew but I also appreciate his discussion about how important mindset can be. Very enjoyable listen!

From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans comes an unforgettable edge-of-your-seat mystery that is at once heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human.

Is it the story, the performance, or both?
Revisado: 05-16-16
Not a writing style I enjoy, The plot is actually more interesting if you read the Wikipedia article describing it first. The beginning of the story plods along and listening to the performance is tedious and exhausting. Don't feel bad about starting then abandoning the story. There are better ways to spend a day. I wouldn't recommend this book or the Audible recording.

none I can think of
What about Brian O'Neill’s performance did you like?
The pace of the performance was good.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
It might be helpful in the recording to call out areas where illustrations were used and available in the separate pdf. That would make it easier to go back to a refer to later.
