Some of the smartest commentary about what’s happening in America is coming from a comedian—this comedian being Bill Maher. If you want to understand what’s wrong with this country, it turns out that one of the best informed and most thought-provoking analysts is this very funny pothead.

Hard to disagree with a lot of this
Revisado: 08-26-24
Again and again I found myself agreeing with Bill. Maybe 15% too much “get off my lawn”. But that’s ignorable.

Historia
As an international war correspondent and radio commentator, William L. Shirer didn't just research the fall of France. He was there. In just six weeks, he watched the Third Reich topple one of the world's oldest military powers - and institute a rule of terror and paranoia. Based on in-person conversation with the leaders, diplomats, generals, and ordinary citizens who both shaped the events of this time and lived through them on a daily basis, Shirer shapes a compelling account of historical events - without losing sight of the personal experience.

All you need to know, to know what happened
Revisado: 07-16-23
Very interesting and detailed explanation of what happened, as well as a very substantial history lesson on the entire 3rd Republic. A crushing and brutal indictment of many of the players is delivered with a soft glove in a prosaic style.

Pleasant, light, and safely in the Buckley oeuvre
Revisado: 09-09-22
A good way to pass a flight to/from Europe. Maybe 6 times will the other passengers look at you as you laugh out loud. All in good fun. A half-buried meditation on the pandemic we all just went through, full of absurdities (that seemed slightly less absurd at the time?). Worth the listen.

The death of Christopher Hitchens in December 2011 prematurely silenced a voice that was among the most admired of contemporary writers. For more than 40 years, Hitchens delivered to numerous publications on both sides of the Atlantic essays that were astonishingly wide ranging and provocative.

Historia
Charlie Munger, Berkshire Hathaway's visionary vice chairman and Warren Buffett's indispensable financial partner, has outperformed market indexes again and again, and he believes any investor can do the same. His notion of "elementary, worldly wisdom" - a set of interdisciplinary mental models involving economics, business, psychology, ethics, and management - allows him to keep his emotions out of his investments and avoid the common pitfalls of bad judgment.

So unfortunately repetitive
Revisado: 09-25-21
I was expecting to hear a lot of what is already well known from just watching or reading the source material that is freely available online. What I didn’t count on was the endless repetition of maxims - almost the same sentences over and over - within the work itself.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Bit of a personal responsibility pep talk
Revisado: 04-10-18
I found the title to be misleading. It’s not really about not caring, it’s about deciding what you care about. It’s mostly Charlie Munger advice, but delivered in a Tony Robbins style. A short, easy listen.
