Historia
If, like Kane, you’re a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again—by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide—and when to shoot. But some places don’t play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane’s experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan meet are such a place—a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Amazing!! Best book I’ve read or listened to in years!
Revisado: 03-26-24
If you like intricate spy novels this is a must read! Its length was a pleasure, and it was a journey that I never wanted to end! I’m a huge fan of Mr Hayes and I only wish that he would write faster but good stories take time to develop, and it’s clear - this is an epic masterpiece!

Mr King: please bring back Will Patton!
Revisado: 09-29-23
I have LOVED all of Mr King’s Holly Gibney books, and although the new narrator for “Holly” did an ok job, she’s not Will Patton! Holly’s voice in my head has always been Mr Patton and it was hard to get used to this new interpretation. Excellent story, most of the gang back together again, great fun- but please- for the next one (please write another!!), back to Patton!

Historia
Lucy and Owen, ambitious, thoroughly-therapized New Yorkers, have taken the plunge, trading in their crazy life in a cramped apartment for Beekman, a bucolic Hudson Valley exurb. They've got a 200-year-old house, an autistic son obsessed with the Titanic, and 17 chickens, at last count. It's the kind of paradise where stay-at-home moms team up to cook the school's "hot lunch", dads grill grass-fed burgers, and, as Lucy observes, "chopping kale has become a certain kind of American housewife's version of chopping wood".

Great story with great narration
Revisado: 08-31-17
Ellen Archer is one of my favorite narrators on Audible. The story was great too, so this one is a win win. The only criticism I have is there were a few character tangents involving others in the story that I thought would tie up neatly with the story in the end somehow but it never really did. These felt a bit like non-sequiturs in a way. But the over all story of Lucy and Owen and their son Wyatt was good enough to carry the book to the end so it wasn't a big deal. It's a good listen!

Dr. Anya Molokova, a child psychiatrist, is called in to work at MacNeice House, an adolescent mental health treatment center. There she is told to observe and assess Alex Connolly, a keenly intelligent, sensitive ten-year-old coping with his mother's latest suicide attempt. Alex is in need of serious counseling: He has been harming himself and others, often during blackouts. At the root of his destructive behavior, Alex claims, is his imaginary "friend" Ruen, a cunning demon who urges Alex to bend to his often violent will.

The story draws you in, surprises in the end
Revisado: 03-03-14
Where does The Boy Who Could See Demons rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
in the top 40%
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Alex. I really enjoyed the accents of the narrators, such pleasing voices to listen to. As a mother my heart went out to the boy, I felt an instinctual need to protect him.
Which character – as performed by Bruce Mann and Carolyn Jess-Cooke – was your favorite?
I also really enjoyed the dialog that came from Rowen. The perfectly-formed grammatically complicated sentences that no young boy could ever utter by himself were performed very well by the narrators and of course, written very well by the author.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I don't sit still for very long, I'm a mover!
Any additional comments?
While the overall premise/subject was quite sad, I have to say I LOVED the ending. Can't say anything else without spoiling so that is all I'll say!

A glimpse of the future? Entertaining narration!
Revisado: 12-16-13
Where does The Circle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
in the top 30%
What did you like best about this story?
I love Dave Eggers stream of consciousness writing…and Dion Graham narrates Eggers' novels so perfectly….nails it! The story makes you think about the permanent nature of the internet, the transparency of social media, and the future. What if Google swallowed up Facebook, merged with Apple and acquired Twitter? Then took over the world ;)
Have you listened to any of Dion Graham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He also narrated Eggers' "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" and so many times I'd be listening and I'd laugh out loud..prompting my husband to look at me quizzically ;) Graham's voice so perfectly embodies Eggers writing - they seem to be one in the same inside my head!
Who was the most memorable character of The Circle and why?
May was memorable as the main character... in the sense that she was so incredibly spineless…sad to see a character who is so easily manipulated. I kept thinking "in this next chapter she is going to have an independent thought"….
Any additional comments?
I'm sure the purpose/intent of the novel is satirical in a way….a dark comedy where Eggers shows what could happen if we don't get a grip on this internet/information overload thing. To be honest, I just love the style of Eggers' writing…I'm a fan no matter what he writes about - and the same goes for Graham's narration. Whatever they do together - I'm in!

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Sad. Left me feeling sick, sad and empty.
Revisado: 09-18-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you enjoy stories involving shallow, ice-cold sociopathic characters, then this is the book for you. Me? I have better things to do with my time. Dont get me wrong, I love a good thriller or mystery...but the sociopathic mind of the main character was too over the top for me. I've enjoyed reading crime novels in the past but this one rubbed me the wrong way because there was absolutely no closure or justice, if you will.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I've been way into Hemingway recently; next up is "In our Time".
What about Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s performance did you like?
Well, I didnt like the tone of the female narrator but that wasn't her fault...it was the character I didnt like. They did a good job of reading the book, were easy to follow.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Gone Girl?
Too many treasure hunts and letters to read/listen to; too many diary entries.
Any additional comments?
Nope
