A great YA/coming of age story about dragon riders and the challenges that come with going against the grain. Absolutely worth the read.

A Slow Start to a Wild Ride in the Dark
Revisado: 06-11-19
It took some time for the story to start, for Koontz to set the scene for the most exciting parts of the action, but the wait was worth it and it was also necessary. If you are a fan of Dean Koontz, you know that he specializes in supernatural mysteries, and this book is no exception. Prepare to learn something about the occult that you didn't know before. Prepare to be dazzled by stunning detail and well-crafted prose. My only complaint is that the narrator leaves something to be desired in the female voices, but otherwise his style only drew me deeper into the narrative.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

The Adventure we all Dream About
Revisado: 01-31-19
This novel was a roller coaster that had me listening every spare chance I got. The references to geek culture made me grin several times, and Wil Wheaton's performance had me laughing nearly the whole way through. I can't think of a better narrator for this book! Cline knows his stuff and he did his research. You will learn a thing or two about the 80's and you will feel called to play some video games from an era of blocky pixels and text-based adventures. I cannot recommend this book enough to fans of anything geek.

Historia
Hailed by literary critics as the inventor of modern-day horror, H. P. Lovecraft is the cultivating force behind such modern writers as Robert Bloch, Wes Craven and Stephen King. The Dark Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft, Volume One is a collection of his best-known tales narrated for the first time by Wayne June and includes both "The Dunwich Horror" (published in the summer of 1926) and "The Call of Cthulhu" (published in the summer of 1928).

A Timeless Tale told by an Enchanting Narrator
Revisado: 01-31-19
Wayne June's narration sold me on this version of Lovecraft's immortalized tales. "The Dunwich Horror" and "The Call of Cthulhu" are both masterpieces even in the modern day. Compelling, dark horror for anyone who enjoys conspiracy, ancient magics, or mystery and intrigue. A must listen over all other editions of Lovecraft's tales if only for the dark and deep voice of the narrator, who transports the listener into the settings of these bleak tales perfectly.

Charmingly Funny and Exceptionally Realistic
Revisado: 01-04-19
I relate to Bob because I am also a science nerd who consumes too much science fiction media. His jokes are often references to well known tropes, and his tolerance for hand waving matches my own. The details presented to make this a more "hard" science fiction story aren't too overdone or annoying, and I couldn't help but laugh at Bob's quips as he told the story in first person. If you are a fan of popular Sci-Fi, you'll be a fan of this exciting tale about space exploration and theory-crafted future global politics. The narrator did an exceptional job of making me believe that he was each of the characters, and really made them come to life (no small task with this particular cast of characters).

Juvenile, but interesting nonetheless
Revisado: 12-18-18
The book came across as juvenile despite the adult content that it contains. I did enjoy the story, but I felt that the writing lacked imagination and depth. The author would have moments of brilliant text, and then moments of poor, un-entertaining mess that I stopped paying real attention to. I personally don't like having things over-explained to me when I can use context and past experience with the genre just fine. Beyond that the pacing could also use some work, and might have been solved with a slightly longer story. The climax and denouement felt like they both happened at the same time, which leaves the ending feeling rushed. A perfect text for a young adult reader who is getting into Sci-Fi, but not so much for a more mature individual with as high of standards as I have.
