Historia
Atlanta was always a dangerous city. Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it’s a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival. Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was. Now she’s back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name - Aurelia Ryder - drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind.

I loved it! :D
Revisado: 02-17-21
5 stars
I don't give many books a full 5 stars but I have to admit that this book was so good and so engaging that it has me wanting to go back and listen to it again. I actually did listen to the last chapter a second time so hear a particular conversation again and I'm still tempted to reread the whole thing. I really loved being back in the Kate Daniels world but Kate isn't in this story, although there are many characters that Kate worked with/dealt with that show up in this story. Yes, Derek is in the story. There's no relationship in this story but some things are revealed that makes me think one will come with time. *fingers crossed*
The interesting thing is, Julie/Aurilia has a new face/scent and hardly anyone recognizes her as Julie when she comes back to Atlanta. So some people that might normally help Julie/Aurilia, instead view her with suspicion and it makes her task harder. Unfortunately, Julie/Aurilia can't tell people who she is because if Kate and select others find out she's her, the prophecy will come true and Kate will die and the world will go to crap. The one thing I didn't like about this story is the fact that although Julie/Aurilia did succeed in her immediate task, the prophecy hasn't been thwarted and I'm impatient and don't want to wait for the next book to see what happens next! :P
Overall, this was a very engaging story and I'd highly recommend it. It would be best for readers of the Kate Daniels world, because they'd get more out of the story but, because it delves into a whole new storyline from Julie/Aurilia's PoV, I think it could work for anyone. :)
* note - The narrator did a good job but I will note that the narrator didn't bother to check the pronunciation of some words/names from previous audiobooks in this world, but it wasn't too bad. FYI...the last 32 minutes of the audiobook are not part of this story but actually 2 short stories (The Letter & King of Fire) that are prequel material to this story. So if you get this, listen to those 2 stories first and then the main story.

This was an excellent story and very well written. Fair warning, this story is about a disaster so there's bad things that happen and many are killed. The book sucks you in and the first chapter had me liking the characters and then horrified at what they had to go through. That may make you question whether to read this story after all but please don't let that deter you from reading this because it's too good to miss out on.
What really made the story though, was the Jedi. In the prequel movies and the Clone Wars TV show, the Jedi order was around in full force but instead of being peace keepers that can go around helping people, the Jedi were forced to become Generals and lead a war for the Republic. And then in the other movies and TV shows, the Jedi are rare and the Jedi order is pretty much decimated. In this story, the Jedi are peace keepers that work on conjunction with the Government of the Republic but they seem much more independent of the Government. When the disaster takes place, the Jedi come in and use their powers to save people on a massive scale and it's wonderful to read. Very uplifting and made me want more. We also get introduced to a new enemy that is mysterious and should be interesting to find out more about. My only real detraction for this story is the fact that it ends in a cliffhanger and I have to wait for the story to continue. I'd definitely recommend this to Star Wars fans! :D

I read this a few weeks ago and forgot to review it but I remember that I was surprised with how much I liked it. Both characters were fine in other books but I never wished for them to get their own book (together or separately). But this story was so well done that I was sucked in right away and got engaged in the story quickly. This is definitely a great story and addition to the series. :D

This was a pretty good story. I forgot to review it right away so I'm not going to try to get into details but overall, it was pretty good but there were a couple parts I was a bit tepid on. Still, I've read the whole series and I think Sands has done a great job as keeping the series interesting on the whole. This was an enjoyable story and I would recommend it.

Historia
They say family always sticks together, but when you're your dad's only lifeline and the whole world - humans, dragons, and gods - wants you dead, "family bonding" takes on a whole new meaning. My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I'm in way over my head. I thought getting rid of my dad's bad luck curse would put things back to normal. Instead, I'm stuck playing caretaker to the Great Dragon of Korea. That wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn't such a jerk, or if every dragon on the planet wasn't out to kill him, or if he was my only problem.

This was a great story and conclusion to this series. Well, at least I think it's the conclusion...it certainly wraps up everything nicely in the end. :)
In this story, Opal it working for the DFZ as a priestess while trying to take care of her father. And as he gets better, Opal has to deal with his attitude and all the stuff that caused their issues in the first place. Thankfully, with his depleted power status, Opal's father if forced to reevaluate some things. The story kind of starts slow and mostly involves Opal and her dad but the story expands as it goes and the end is explosive and a really great ending to everything, with a HEA for Opal and Nick. Overall, I was very happy with this trio of books about Opal (and Nick) and would recommend them. :)

Wow, I loved this story. When Alessandro left at the end of Sapphire Flames, it hit Catalina hard and while she (and we the readers) knew there was something more going on that was pushing his actions, the underlying reason wasn't known. This story starts around 6 months after the end of Sapphire Flames and Catalina is back to normal and forging ahead to make her House and business stronger. She's also still Linus Duncan's Deputy Warden and has been gaining experience through those cases.
As the story begins, Catalina and her family are just finishing up an investigation job, when they're attacked unexpectedly. The attack ends up turning into a Warden case which requires Catalina takes on a murder investigation with underlying complications tied to her and Linus' obligations as Wardens. Alessandro comes back to town to protect Catalina because the person targeting her is someone he's been after for a long time and he's determined not to let her get hurt. Since he broke her heart when he left 6 months before, Catalina's reception is understandably cold but Linus forces them to work the case together. Catalina isn't happy about it but she agrees.
Catalina intends to hold Alessandro at arms length but it's difficult when he's suddenly more open and willing to share. Of course, after Catalina's agreement with her Grandmother in the last book, she doesn't see how they'd be able to be together in reality but it doesn't stop the feelings. Lets just say that Alessandro'x family life isn't the blockade to them being together that Catalina thinks it is and they do figure things out by the end of this book.
The story had a number of different aspects and I liked it all. Nevada is back and it's well done so she's around but doesn't step on Catalina being the primary of this story. We get to find out what caused Nevada's sudden split from the family AND ***see below for spoiler***. Catalina is honoring the deal with her Grandmother but is also using her lessons for her own aims and not letting herself be pushed around and I liked seeing Catalina show that strength when needed. Overall, there was a lot going on in the story but it all fit well together and turned into a great story that was very engaging. I'd definitely recommend this story but it's not exactly a standalone so it's best with the series (or at least book #4 since that's when Catalina becomes the focus of the story). :D
****spoiler****Nevada is pregnant and gives birth to a boy!!!! And he's already showing signs of mega prime powers!*****

This was a great story and continuation of the series. Nell is making her way in life in a few different ways. She passes her probation period and becomes a full PSYled agent. She also is making a home for her little sister to live with her as well as dealing with other family issues. And Nell's relationship with Occum is progressing but he's leaving the speed up to her and there's some internal struggle as she decides things.
A lot of this is secondary to the case they get called in on, the death of a celebrity that turns into something worse. A couple of the team members happen to be away and with Rick being one of them, Nell and team get a lot of face-time with their higher-up boss, Ayatas Firewind. I found more exposure to Ayatas (Jane's brother) very interesting and am liking him more after this book. The case is interesting and I liked getting to see Nell and team tackle it. In the end, the case is solved and everything ends well, with the team doing better than ever and Nell and Occum's relationship progressing nicely. :)

Ever since Jane Jameson took over running the Vampire Council for Half-Moon Hollow, things have been a little unorthodox, and that doesn’t sit well with the head office. Who would have thought vampires were so into bureaucracy and tradition? Enter a vamp from corporate who’s determined to unseat Jane and get the council back on track - which means no more of this Kentucky neighborliness and mixing with humans, werewolves, witches, or anything else. But Jane’s not interested in going back to the bad old days when the council was mired in corruption.

Ack! I finished this a couple weeks ago and forgot to review it and my memory is horrible. I'll boil it down to say that if you've read the other Half-moon Hallow books in the series, this book is very similar in story type and feel but without being boring/feeling repetitive. I liked the characters and enjoyed the story very much, feeling satisfied upon completing it and looking forward to more from this series in the future. :)

Great story but be warned, it's a cliffhanger :D
Revisado: 07-15-20
4.5-5 stars
With the 6+ year gap between book #15 and #16, I decided to do a reread of the whole series so I'd be fresh on all that happened when I finally got to read #16. So I can say with confidence that I don't feel that Butcher's Dresden storytelling abilities have diminished at all. This story picked up where the series left off without a glitch. Fair warning, after such a long wait it seems that Harry's return is encompassed in a BIG story so this book is actually a major cliffhanger...thank goodness book #17 is coming out in 2 months!!!
This was a great Dresden story and addition to the series. Maggie is in this story (at least in parts) and I like the interaction between her and Harry and their budding relationship. I will say that the "Harry as Maggie's father" storyline is a bit rough but I think it's already improving and Maggie getting older will also help...it's kind of hard for Harry to spend huge amounts of time with her when his main thing is taking on major bad guys that he can't risk exposing her to. There's a lot going on in this story (family issues, romance, war/peace) and like I said above, it ends in a major cliffhanger so not much gets settled in this story. Still, I thought this was a great addition to the Dresden series and I can't wait to read #17 to find out what happens! :D
