I had absolutely no idea what to expect, and after 10-15 minutes I thought that I would quit on it.
I am very glad that I didn't do that, because not only did the story grow a LOT on me, but the performance of the cast, and the way the story was executed, was sublime.
Excellent story. Great performance. Thanks

Historia
In a quest for a simpler life, Helen and Nate have abandoned the comforts of suburbia to take up residence on 44 acres of rural land where they will begin the ultimate, aspirational do-it-yourself project: building the house of their dreams. When they discover that this beautiful property has a dark and violent past, Helen, a former history teacher, becomes consumed by the local legend of Hattie Breckenridge, a woman who lived and died there a century ago.

OK story so far - but I cannot take the narrator
Revisado: 05-05-19
I have tried to get past the narration - but I keep finding myself not listening to the story - but to the Amazingly annoying narrators way of reading.
She puts emphasis on the last syllable in each sentence, and pronounces it just a bit more high pitched. I cannot explain it better, English being a second language for me, but it completely ruins the story for me. I have given up now - and will ask for a refund.

Historia
If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Not for me.
Revisado: 02-03-18
I was excited when Sleeping Beauties was announced. Due to other books I had to finish first - I only got to it in late January 2018 - and I struggled to get through it, feeling more and more confused.
I never really found out what the story wanted to tell me. There were so many things introduced to the story, that just never got cleared out WHY it was there.
No idea now, after finishing it, WHY it all happened. And It wasen't even interesting enough to make me care. Sorry Stephen King - I am a lifelong fan, but this was bad.
And well it was my first Owen King story - and I am going to be very carefully before engaging in another one.
I once read Stephen King saying that the worst thing he could imagine, in a book, was not that it was badly written with a good story - but a bad story - nomatter how good it was written.
This was sadly, a bad story.

took me three tries over a period of six years to get into this story, but this time I stuck with it - and thank God for that.
it turned out to be a great story very nicely told by Mare Winningham.
As so many books do, this one deserves a second run.
Stephen King once again shows that noone comes close in telling a story of a person. not a character to a plot, but a person's life.
Thanks Mr. King, for letting me into the lives of Scott and Lisey.

My all time favorite story. Perfection
Revisado: 01-14-15
Perfect! If I could do a one-word review of this book - it would be that word. Perfect.
Stephen King's best story ever if you ask me. And John Slattery just lifts it up even higher.
The story is pure poetry. Listen to this. "Black is the absence of light - but white is the absence of memory - the color of can't remember" I had goosebumps for a long time after "reading" that.
Edgar Freemantle and Gerome Wireman and the way they work together in the story, and in your mind when you get to know them - is nothing short of amazing.
A great story, but even more so - a fantastic tale of one man's journey through a part of life, with up's and down's.
I listen to this story at least twice a year, and I think I will for as long as I can hear.
