Historia
At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated.

Historia
Gordon Wood's wondrous accomplishment here is to bring these men and their times down to earth and within our reach, showing us just who they were and what drove them. In so doing, he shows us that although a lot has changed in two hundred years, to an amazing degree the virtues these founders defined for themselves are the virtues we aspire to still.

Historia
The culture wars have distorted the dramatic story of how Americans came to worship freely. Many activists on the right maintain that the United States was founded as a "Christian nation". Many on the left contend that the Founders were secular or Deist and that the First Amendment was designed to boldly separate church and state throughout the land. None of these claims are true, argues Beliefnet.com editor in chief Steven Waldman.

So many questions answered
Revisado: 06-19-22
I enjoyed this book enormously. I have been interested in the faith of the founders. This single book shed light on the "first five" in thought and importance. Each has his own individual perspective. But, over time, perspectives grow and change. Waldman accounts for this evolution in his book. I like how he challenges "liberals" and "evangelicals" alike with myopic interpretations of history. The final part of the last chapter is purely speculative, answering how each of the five would interpret how the United States have "turned out". I very much enjoyed this thought experiment. I recommend this book to those interested in the foundation of religion in America and the religion of the Founders.

Historia
Between 1929 and 1945, two great travails were visited upon the American people: the Great Depression and World War II. This Pulitzer Prize–winning history tells the story of how Americans endured, and eventually prevailed, in the face of those unprecedented calamities. The Depression was both a disaster and an opportunity. As David Kennedy vividly demonstrates, the economic crisis of the 1930s was far more than a simple reaction to the alleged excesses of the 1920s.

One of the great audio books.
Revisado: 04-04-22
This is a long book with massive details. I listened to the audio performance as I read along in the book. The reader captured and maintained my attention. There are parts I will need to review as I was distracted. But I appreciate the information that was included in this book.

Historia
King's Cross is Timothy Keller's revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. There have been many biographies of Jesus, but few will be as anticipated as this one by Keller, the man Newsweek calls "a C. S. Lewis for the 21st century". In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God.

Historia
Beloved and hated, venerated and reviled, Andrew Jackson was an orphan who fought his way to the pinnacle of power, bending the nation to his will in the cause of democracy. Jackson's election in 1828 ushered in a new and lasting era in which the people, not distant elites, were the guiding force in American politics. Democracy made its stand in the Jackson years, and he gave voice to the hopes and the fears of a restless, changing nation facing challenging times at home and threats abroad.

Compelling narrative -Flawed but inspirational man
Revisado: 08-07-12
Jackson is a person I had come to revile. I learned of the Trail of Tears, the duels and all. Yet, he was a figure of inspiration to many. This book is balance and entertaining. It has re-kindled my interest in this phase of American History.
I have read one other book my Jon Meacham, American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation. Though not my favorite author, this book is amazing. it flows well and never bored me.
I hate to be critical of the narration, but Richard McGondale does not entertain me as many others do. This is not to say that the narration is bad. For my ear, he is not as good as others such as Scott Brick.
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in biography and Early American History.
