Historia
Hacker Kita Yamasaki would do anything to escape the post-apocalyptic landscape that was the result of the Forever Winter. But for a normal person, the only options are the war-hungry nation-state of Ex Cathedra or the isolationist United California. Fortunately, Kita is anything but normal. When she finds a faded brochure for the BC Oasis—an underground greenhouse capable of sheltering a quarter million people—she jumps at the opportunity, even going so far as to steal a fission battery the oasis requires to operate at full capacity.

Gritty, tense, and full of action!

The perfect start to another fabulous series by Stovall! Great world building with lots of science and tech to make it feel so real. Kita is a total bada** and I can’t wait to read book two!

Fantastically insightful!

It’s been a long time since a book truly broke my heart, but this one tore it apart, tiny bleeding chunk after chunk. But it still left me with hope.
In the story, Adeline La Rue craves a life where she doesn’t have to submit to the “rules” of her time. On the morning of her forced marriage, she makes a deal with the darkness to escape, giving up her life in return for her soul. She’s set on the path of immortality and what she sees as freedom. But every deal comes with a cost. Hers is that everyone she meets will forget her. She spends the next 300 years learning the true meanings of happiness, life, and love. When she finally meets a man who actually remembers her the next day, she wonders if the darkness, Luke, has finally made a mistake or if Henry is just another piece in Luke’s game to get her to submit to him and release her soul. She longs to live a life where she leaves a mark on the world, and Henry just might be the key. Addie learns the toughest lesson, though, when she discovers the true reason why Henry can remember her and what it means for her future. I won’t give away spoilers, but if you are looking for a true romance, this isn’t it. IYKYK.
The author jumps around in time, giving you glimpses of both Addie’s and Henry’s lives, but their story is told in the correct sequence. I normally see the endings coming, but this one was a little harder, so I was glad not to figure it out. I will say though, Addie is a clever, strong character and even when you think she’s lost, she finds a way to win. There isn’t a cliffhanger ending, but a book 2 could absolutely happen and I’m here for it!
If you are looking for a heart wrenching, beautifully written, insightful, inspiring story, give this one a try.
Just have a box of tissues handy.
