Historia
Hitler's forces had pressed in on the small Belgian town in a desperate offensive designed to push back the Allies, starting the Battle of the Bulge. So far, the US soldiers had managed to repel waves of attackers and even a panzer onslaught, but as their ammunition dwindled, the weary paratroopers of the 101st Airborne could only hope for a miracle - a miracle in the form of General George S. Patton and his Third Army.

Comprehensive, Sobering
Revisado: 03-16-22
Incredible detail. Maybe too much. But have to admire the work that went into this. The author interviewed survivors on both sides, reviewed after action reports and also included interviews with civilians in the villages. The result is an unvarnished and well researched account of a few days in December; while also revealing the chillingly absurd cost when Generals play chess with live soldiers.

Needs Caffeine
Revisado: 02-08-22
A very slow start to a fairly good story. Narration was dull and lifeless. Narrator confused the characters’ emotions sounding more bored than anything else. On a long road trip, my wife preferred the silence over listening to this book. I finished it later, but can’t say she was wrong to drop out.

Exploring Emotions Ad Nauseum
Revisado: 01-28-22
Not a bad story but greatly damaged by all the inner turmoil the author laboriously explores over and over. And over and over . . . I get it already! Rather than showing the main characters’ vulnerability, it makes them appear so beset by emotional problems they can barely function. This was my 5th book, but truly it was hard to finish. I doubt I’ll waste time on the next.
