Historia
Ed Macy had always dreamed of a career in the army, so when the British Army Air Corps launched its attack helicopter program, Macy bent every rule in the book to make sure he was the first to sign up to fly the Apache—the deadliest, most technically advanced helicopter in the world and the toughest to fly. In 2007, Macy's Apache squadron was dispatched to Afghanistan's notorious Helmand Province with the mission to fight alongside and protect the men on the ground by any means necessary.

Great glimpse into the duty life of a Apache Pilot.

Great Narration. The book has technical information, but it us not over technical as to come across as a text book.

Historia
You do not have to be an aviation aficionado to enjoy Colonel Steve Ladd’s fascinating personal tale, woven around his 28-year career as a fighter pilot. This extremely engaging account follows a young man from basic pilot training to senior command through the narratives that define a unique ethos. From the United States to Southeast Asia; Europe to the Middle East; linking the amusing and tongue-in-cheek to the deadly serious and poignant, this is the lifelong journey of a fighter pilot.

Story is worth the narrator's short commings
Revisado: 11-17-23
Great story with a good blend of gripping events and humor. Col. Ladd had an obviously great career and was able to do things only a few are allowed to do. With the love of his wife and family he was the tip of the spear and I for one am greatful. The chronicals of his life regaled to us are not over technical and keep the lay person engaged, and provide a small glimps into a world of the elite community of Fighter Pilots.
The Narrator did an excellent job for the most part. My only complaint is that he would take long pauses between sentences that lasted to long and appeared awkward. At the begining of one chaptor the narrator appeared to have a cold and you can hear him struggle to breath. A good part of the book dealt with Col. Ladd serving in Germany. The Narrator Jeff Bolton, attempted to, but was unsuccessful to prounce the German words. He really should have asked a German speaking person to help him with the pronunciation. But, over all he does a good job, and the story keeps you listening.

Narration is awful But the Story is great.
Revisado: 08-27-23
the book and story is great,
I read this book several times in the 90s, so I was very excited to find it on Audible. Sadly my excitement turned to disappointment once I listened to it. The narrator, while having a good voice, his cadence and voice inflections of words and syllables is reminiscent of when someone imitates William Shattner. His voice barely changes when different characters have dialogue. I made it through half a chapter, then turned it off.
I sampled other books that are narrated by John Teal and they are the same.
I will be returning this one and purchasing the book.

Great series
Revisado: 08-27-23
Great series and I wish that Ward writes another book in the series. listen to all three back to back. my only complaint would that each book ended rather abruptly. I felt that certain story lines did not get the ending they deserved. Characters were introduced with fairly good detail, but there stories ended without explanation. It is reminiscent of TV show siblings that are in the first season then absent from the next season like they never existed.
Mr. Carol, please write book 4 and finish character development of Muddy. and such.

Good Talk Dad is a Great Listen.
Revisado: 01-29-16
Fantastic stories told by two great guys. I grew up without a real father, and never really cared about it one way or the other. But after hearing the Geist men talk, and learn how close they are, I am a little sad, I did not have a father around.
