I have long, very narrow feet so I always strule to find shoes that fit properly. These boots are perfect: narrow, sturdy and stylish. Totally worth the cost.

A beautiful, heartfelt narrative that reflects the complexities and nuances of real life. There is nothing majorly dramatic in the typical sense. But beautiful way in which every character is brought to life is quite something. The author really brings home the complexities of human nature: abuser and philanthropist, victim and perpetrator. so subtle and so poignant.

Narration: excellent!
Content: I was pleasantly surprised that the author included a number of women outside Europe. The lives of these women are rich in historical fact an explanations of historiography are expertly interwoven to create compelling stories. Every one of these remarkable women is brought to life!

The author's use of imagery is sardonic and paints a beautifully lurid picture of the hypocrisy of self-entitled idealogues intent on exercising what tgwy believe to be in the best interests of tge people.
Nguyen brings to life the complexities of Vietnamese culture in the 20th century, allowing western readers to glimpse into a non-Hollywoodised era and people. Being one of tge few books written from the perspective of the Vietnamese by a person of Vietnamese descent, it is essential reading for anyone interesred in studying the contentious wars that plagued Vietnamese people for decades.

Brilliant narration snd content. A very personal look at a major turning point in global history.
Somehow this series has managed to produce a very human, multifaceted portrayal of British colonialism without either demonising, lauding or apologising for colonialism.
All History teachers should listen to this podcast series.

Narration was very good and the plot is totally believable. I found the main character somewhat immature, which may have been the writer's intention. I also found her justification at the end unpalatable but something that reflects the basic entitlement of the white and privileged.
Definitely no fuzzy happy ending.
Thought-provoking and definitely worth a listen.

A truly beautiful tale of strength, human frailty and complexity set against the backdrop of a patriarchal, hypocritical and unfair world. This novel is an ode to countless generations of women who have survived, thrived or been crushed by the unfairness of being born a woman in a world where one is simply the extension of a man who can do what he wants.
