Weak story, performance, etc
Revisado: 10-31-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I'm not even sure. Probably the much younger side of YA fans. Most of the time YA can translate for a fun, easy listen for adults. This story was wholly boring, I couldn't invest in any of the characters, and the performance was so bad that it was distracting to the half-baked plot.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Nothing by this narrator or author.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Horrible "latin" accents. It was brutal.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was instantly annoyed by the narrator's attempt at accents but wanted to look past it to give the story a fair shot. When it didn't deliver, I was just blah. I finished it for the sake of completion.
Any additional comments?

Historia
Sisters. Strangers. Survivors. More than 20 years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

Dark and twisted, but not revolutionary.
Revisado: 01-05-16
What aspect of Kathleen Early’s performance would you have changed?
The performance of this book was great. The narrator was able to weave in and out of the darkest parts of this story adeptly, and the only thing that bothered me was the over-pronunciation of the "WH" sound... but it takes place in Georgia so it's believable. Still. Ugh.
Could you see Pretty Girls being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
This book could easily be a movie. In fact, there are many movies that exist that cover this kind of story.
Any additional comments?
Regarding the story: This story IS dark. It IS graphic. It IS relentless. But you know what? SO IS LIFE. While I do agree that this book should come with a trigger warning (one that I'd have liked myself, for many reasons), I am not going to shy away and call this book obscene. Men ACTUALLY do things like this to women, it is not hard for me to believe that a string of privileged, powerful men laden with access and money were able to pull the terrible things that happened in this book. However, it's a work of fiction. I think the book was fine. Performance was good, the story was definitely intense, and it was well-written. However, I think I'm more annoyed at the delicate reviewers who are so shocked by the subject matter.
