Historia
By one expert's prediction, within 20 years half of Americans will have body implants that tell retailers how they feel about specific products as they browse their local stores. The notion may be outlandish, but it reflects executives' drive to understand shoppers in the aisles with the same obsessive detail that they track us online. In fact, a hidden surveillance revolution is already taking place inside brick-and-mortar stores, where Americans still do most of their buying.

Good, but a bit one-sided
Revisado: 02-09-18
Perhaps this topic needs to be a bit one-sided to get the desired effect, but I thought it a bit unbalanced in its viewpoints. As a small example, it criticizes collaboration between the FBI and NY businesses in preparing for public Occupy demonstrations. I don't think this is objectionable considering the impact the demonstrations might have, at least at the physical location where the demonstrations would be occurring. The book portrays this as insidious. Perhaps there was something nefarious there, but it doesn't mean there absolutely was.

Historia
New technologies have provided both incredible convenience and new threats. The same kinds of digital networks that allow you to hail a ride using your smartphone let power grid operators control a country's electricity - and these personal, corporate, and government systems are all vulnerable. In Ukraine, unknown hackers shut off electricity to nearly 230,000 people for six hours. North Korean hackers destroyed networks at Sony Pictures in retaliation for a film that mocked Kim Jong-un.

A very nice overview of today's challenges
Revisado: 12-12-17
Great overview.... Emphasis on using "she" everywhere was a bit annoying though. Very insightful and balanced look at the issues.

Historia
As the digital era becomes increasingly pervasive, the intertwining forces of computers and espionage are reshaping the entire world; what was once the preserve of a few intelligence agencies now affects us all. Corera's compelling narrative takes us from the Second World War through the Cold War and the birth of the Internet to the present era of hackers and surveillance. The book is rich with historical detail and characters as well as astonishing revelations about espionage carried out in recent times by the United Kingdom, the United States, and China.

Material is aged and needs updating. Overall concept is good, gets the point across, but the age of the stories takes away from the overall value.

... a great starting point to understand risks at a very high level. Very simple to fllow, for the most part. Reading performance was annoying in skme pronunciations ("pro-grum" cs. "pro- graham", for me).

Historia
This manual will give you the incognito tools that'll make you a master of anonymity! Other books tell you to install Tor and then encrypt your hard drive...and leave it at that. I go much deeper, delving into the very engine of ultimate network security, taking it to an art form where you'll grow a new darknet persona - how to be anonymous online without looking like you're trying to be anonymous online.

Not bad for awareness
Revisado: 04-25-16
Great to make you aware of issues, and that tools are available. Doesn't address how the recommended tools can be trusted. Does a decent job separating privacy from anonymity. Could do more to tackle Tor exit node risks.
