Historia
Nisha Cantor lives the globetrotting life of the seriously wealthy, until her husband announces a divorce and cuts her off. Nisha is determined to hang onto her glamorous life. A very moving account of the impact of the eugenics movement as told through the eyes of two very likable women.
Revisado: 04-20-25
The eugenics movement began in England and spread all over the world, including the United States. The Nazis got their idea about that from us. What a sad chapter in our medical history that we sterilized so called “disabled” people. I couldn’t help wondering about the current parallels to Nazi Germany in which we are currently residing.

Very moving coming of age story in 1950s Iran.
Revisado: 04-02-25
This is a beautifully written story about two interesting young adults who fall in love in Tehran in the 1950s. It is a story of class restrictions , political upheaval, and mental illness all creating obstacles to this relationship. Highly recommend!

Good Historical Novel About Chinese Immigration Via Angel Island
Revisado: 07-08-24
I just visited Angel Island, and was really pleased to find this book. I was concerned it would be unbearably sad. It was not at all. The story was very well, balanced between suffering and happiness. I was struck by the gentleness of the two primary characters in this. Highly recommend!

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.
