Great skim over music history
Revisado: 02-13-24
I’m a musician and big classical music lover but have never really learned about the history of it and how music got to where it is today. I think this book was a decent skim over music and its history. Could be good for musicians and non-musicians alike. The book doesn’t go into much detail about each composer or each genre but more gives the overall timeline of classical music starting from 1000 to today. There’s lots of fun facts and tidbits that really got me thinking about music in a new way. Definitely recommend.

Historia
In the newly revised and expanded second edition of Free-Range Kids, New York columnist-turned-movement leader Lenore Skenazy delivers a compelling and entertaining look at how we got so worried about everything our kids do, see, eat, read, wear, watch, and lick - and how to bid a whole lot of that anxiety goodbye. With real-world examples, advice, and a gimlet-eyed look at the way our culture forces fear down our throats, Skenazy describes how parents and educators can step back so kids step up.

Good book okay performance
Revisado: 01-24-24
This book was great for those that are worried parents with their first child. Definitely helped me let go of a lot of my anxiety around child rearing. That being said the narrator was a bit fast paced for my liking and could have definitely use a second listen before releasing the book. Some misreads and quick cuts that got kind of annoying after awhile. But overall strongly recommend this book for anyone with kids.

Pretty bleak future according to this book
Revisado: 05-30-23
The author goes through a bunch of data stating that human beings are already on a path to be eliminated if we don’t change how we’re handling regulation around chemicals. Starts off pretty depressing, then half way through kind of scary then towards the end rounds it off with some sort of hope for humankind if we change. Great listen, highly recommend.

Historia
The science of emotion is in the midst of a revolution on par with the discovery of relativity in physics and natural selection in biology. Leading the charge is psychologist and neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett, whose research overturns the long-standing belief that emotions are automatic, universal, and hardwired in different brain regions. Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture.

Got this book randomly and did not expect it to be as insightful as it was. Super interesting and easy to digest. The author breaks down brain science in a way that’s easy to understand. Enjoyed this book very much!

Epic journey
Revisado: 10-13-21
Great book! Really makes you really want to sit and reflect about how you live your life, how crazy society has gotten and how humans must have live for centuries before we got to this point. The performance was okay, some noticeable edit chops here and there but I’m an audio engineer so I hear those kind of things. It doesn’t take sways from how epic this book is tho. This book is a must for anyone that wants to break out of the norm and take an outside look at oneself.

Not even worth the FREE price
Revisado: 02-23-21
Couldn't get through the first chapter even. I usually love inspirational books to give me new positive ways of thinking but halfway through the first chapter I could already tell this book was not worth it. It's just basically all about his childhood and his daddy and how his daddy can beat up your daddy. Like come on dude, give me something other than your privileged upbringing, not everyone has the same advantages. Narrator also reads the books in the most obnoxious manner, trying to be upbeat and motivational but it's just sooo ANNOYING. This book came out more than 10 years ago. There's so many other books that have come out since then that are more relevant and have way better advice.

Really good book that has totally opened my eyes to religion and it’s stems. Had to listen through it two times to really understand it. Would be nice if there were some pictures to go along with pictures and other things the author describes. Had to google a bunch just so I could understand what he was talking about. All in all great book!
