Historia
Founded in the late 1800s by the son of Frederick Douglass, Highland Beach along the Chesapeake Bay is the oldest Black resort community in America. Inside this proud and secluded beach community of about 100 private homes is Olivia Jones’s legacy. But Oliva’s legacy comes with thorns—intertwined are secrets of her aunt’s death; a controlling grandmother who is determined to crush anyone or anything that will interfere with her son’s political career; and a father who wants to rebuild the family he rejected decades ago.

Too much Olivia
Revisado: 04-17-25
The first book in the series did a great job of balancing stories involving all the ladies. The last 2 books were more exclusively focused on Olivia which was not as interesting. Her story showed the reality of our human flaws but her insecurity grated on my nerves. They did introduce a few new characters and told their side stories which helped but I wish the original cast had been featured more

Historia
Savannah Webster is trying to find her way forward. She and her husband, Hez, have been separated since tragedy tore them apart and he began numbing his grief and guilt with alcohol. She returned to Tupelo Grove University, which her family helped found over a century ago, to teach history. When Hez turns up in her classroom asking for a second chance, she rejects the idea immediately. But twenty-four hours later she’s under suspicion for murder, and since Hez is the best attorney she knows, she reluctantly asks him for help.

Twist at the end
Revisado: 04-17-25
First, the narration was pretty good. No real complaints there. I did not particularly care for female lead, Savanna. She has far too many TSTL moments . I did quite a bit of eye rolling over her nonsense. She also was crazy not to listen to her sister’s safety concerns. She also consistently underestimated the seriousness of various situations and the danger. She killed me with her constant insecurity too. Hez, the male lead, I liked better although the author involved him in a couple of TSTL moments at the end which was irritating and disappointing. The end had an interesting twist . Enough so that I will likely listen to the sequel.

Historia
Olivia Jones, hard-working and accomplished, has, against the odds, blazed an enviable career path in the finance world. But behind the veneer of her success, she is mourning several devastating losses and betrayals. Untethered from her life in New York City, Olivia moves to a summer home in The Hamptons. Here, Olivia finds a close-knit community of African American elites who escape New York City for the beautiful beaches of the Hamptons. Since the 1930s, very few have known about this Historically Black Beachfront Community, and the residents like it that way.

All is well that ends well
Revisado: 03-22-25
First, January Lavoy is one of my favorite narrators and she pretty much only narrates winners. As for the book. I liked it a little better than the first mainly because I identified most with Olivia. Her relationship with Anderson mirrored one that I had myself at that same age. I too ended up in the same place as Olivia and it was the right choice. I don’t like all the secrets and lies but that is how humans operate many times. Loved the intricacies of the relationships and the lessons learned from their stories. I have already purchased the next book. Kudos to the author

Good addition to series
Revisado: 03-11-25
Overall, I liked it. I wanted to read Mara and Ethan’s story after hearing about them in Sebastian’s story. Reading the books out of order did not diminish them. There was mystery in the hunt for the treasure but no mystery figuring out the Villains. I wish there had been a twist with that. Too many sex scenes. I find listening to those off putting. I wish authors would imply intimacy but not paint graphic sex scenes. The characters were well developed and likable.

Thirty years ago, Amelia Vaux Tanner and her husband built a house high on the bluffs, a cottage they named Chateau Laveau. For decades, “Ama” played host to American presidents, Wall Street titans, and cultural icons. But her favorite guests have always been her three “goddaughters”: Esperanza “Perry” Soto, a beautiful, talented Afro-Latina lawyer with Ama’s strong, yet guarded personality; Olivia Jones, a gifted Wall Street analyst with Ama’s brilliant, logical mind; and Billie Hayden, a gifted marine biologist and rule-breaker with Ama’s courageous free spirit.

Complex and Real
Revisado: 03-01-25
The story is very well written . It is not easy to successfully write multiple stories interwoven into one. I liked all the email leads and the men too. The author was able to show the pitfalls of human nature and still allow the characters succeed. The endings for each lady were a nice twist. I will wait until I read more of Olivia’s story in book two before I comment on the direction the author went with her. Well done.

Sebastian’s story
Revisado: 02-16-25
I was happy to read Sebastian’s story. His is a great character who appears in other books by this author. I really loved how Kat called him on his B.S. instead of falling victim to teenage like angst when he appeared to reject her. That was a nice change. Usually authors have the couple endure a dramatic break up and work their way back to each other. Some intrigue but you knew who the bad guys were early in. I like the reprisals by previous characters from other stories. Did not appreciate or enjoy the sex scenes which I feel always detract from a book and basically waste pages. All in all I would recommend.

Journalist Gabriel Moss is hot to find his next huge story - and he knows Erin is on to something big. From the moment they meet, Gabriel senses that Erin is hiding something. Just Enough
Revisado: 02-09-25
This story had just enough intrigue, angst, and romance to keep you listening. The main characters had depth and the supporting cast interesting enough for you to want them to have their own story. Did not like or need the gratuitous sex scenes and they did not add anything to the story. The villain was somewhat of a surprise . I liked the complicated relationships and the how they represented how life is , the good , the bad, and the ugly.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Really liked it
Revisado: 01-30-25
This book was clever and funny and engaging. I did not figure out the villain until the end. The only weak spot is how the characters did not seem to have a moral compass which led to 90% of their life problems. All the cheating and lying and promiscuity- yuck.

Decent
Revisado: 01-30-25
I mostly enjoyed the story. Narration was very good. I listened mostly when driving , working out or cleaning house and it was entertaining enough for that. One drawback was it was easy figuring out who the villains were pretty easily on the US side. I admit to being a little surprised by the villain in the British side. Another was the insta- love between the two main characters. Another was the multiple plot and story lines going on at the same time . They eventually came together.
I did like how the author spent time on the intricacies of family dynamics and how our relationships shape us.
All in all a decent read

Surprise ending
Revisado: 12-10-24
This was a good story and a pleasant way to spend time. Narrator did good job with the many character voices. Ending was a surprise. I did not guess the killer until close to the end. The romance was a nice touch although I could have done without the sex scenes. I liked Anne. I look forward to the next story
