Historia
In Origins, Frank H. T. Rhodes explores the origin and evolution of living things, the changing environments in which they have developed, and the challenges we now face on an increasingly crowded and polluted planet. Rhodes argues that the future well-being of our burgeoning population depends in no small part on our understanding of life's past, its long and slow development, and its intricate interdependencies.

If you enjoy the fluidity through which they dance through various zoomed in and out perspectives on organisms, ecosystems, geological trends, and evolutionary history then you'll love it. Quite dry, but if you're even looking at this book, then you may love it.

Historia
In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps. Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds—from the infamous “kidney theft ring” hoax to a coach’s lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony—draw their power from the same six traits.

Historia
Here, anthropologist David Graeber presents a stunning reversal of conventional wisdom: He shows that before there was money, there was debt. For more than 5,000 years, since the beginnings of the first agrarian empires, humans have used elaborate credit systems to buy and sell goods - that is, long before the invention of coins or cash. It is in this era, Graeber argues, that we also first encounter a society divided into debtors and creditors.

Revisado: 01-13-17
This is one of those rare A+ books. Dense with information and history, it shattered much of what I had thought about money, motivation, and mandkind as a whole. As a former scientist, I was astounded by how many my views of society and culture shifted as the result of reading this book. Truly eye opening.

Historia
Denial presents a radical new theory on the origins of our species. It was not, the authors argue, a biological leap that set humanity apart from other species, but a psychological one: namely, the uniquely human ability to deny reality in the face of inarguable evidence - including the willful ignorance of our own inevitable deaths.

An interesting but nascent concept.
Revisado: 02-19-16
This book starts off with an extremely scientific perspective but then, in my opinion, makes claims which are not supported by anything other than the author's perspective and hypothetical examples. The idea contained inside this book is definitely a worthy subject of discussion but the length of this book is not required to introduce that idea. It spends most of its time justifying its obscure thesis with nothing more than repetition of the theme.
The worst part is the reader, I listened to it at 3x speed. The reader was plain, humdrum, and lifeless. Honestly one of the worst I've heard, when played at 1x speed.
Skippable. The idea can be grasped by reading the online reviews. The author is a genius, but this book is unjustifiably long.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

For 18 years, Ed Viesturs pursued climbing's holy grail: to stand atop the world's 14 8,000-meter peaks, without the aid of bottled oxygen. But No Shortcuts to the Top is as much about the man who would become the first American to achieve that goal as it is about his stunning quest. As Viesturs recounts the stories of his most harrowing climbs, he reveals a man torn between the flat, safe world he and his loved ones share and the majestic and deadly places where only he can go.

I loved the story, an amazing individual who did amazing things. If you like adventure, you'll love it. I completely disagree with the negative reviews that said he was self-indulgent I think everything he said sounds accurate even if it is somewhat self-serving at times ended in no way detracted from the quality of the book.

Magically Tragically Beautiful
Revisado: 02-11-15
A romantic biography of a romantic by a romantic. Krakauer does it again, but as usual, the subject matter is inherently gripping. Putting his own personalized framing over the unfortunate story of Chris's demise, and the stalwart adventurelust that led him there, Krakauer carries you skeptical and passionate analysis of Chris's life. An adventure and a lesson in every chapter.
