Are all characters Harvard graduates?

The story is pretty darn good but I’ve noticed with a lot of writers these days try and show off how smart they are by using the Lexicon of a Harvard graduate for all their characters. No matter how good the story is or how well the narrator performs , when every character in the story uses the same advanced vocabulary as if they all graduated from Harvard University. It is distracting and really distracts from the story.
Too often The narrator makes many of characters sound like scared weepy over dramatic teenage girls. Much of the story and narration is done very well but some things just makes the story cringy.

I really tried. Truly. The entire story is based on nonstop coincidences. Like the entire universe conspired for absolutely everything that could go wrong. Regardless of the outcome of each harrowing incident it was followed by yet another plethora of everything that could go wrong converging yet again and again and again and again. It’s just exhausting.
The other thing is the nonstop diatribes of how no one was ready for the end of civilization in a “I told you so” manner.
If peppers can’t have an actual “end of civilization” simply so they can gloat, they have this series to live out that fantasy in their heads.
I envision most of them having special “alone time” in their beds with a box of tissue and a bottle of Jergens lotion every night after reading a chapter.

Story is good. A little overwritten with constant explanations regarding every thought or sentence but not terrible.
Female narrator does an overall pretty good job. Somewhat enjoyable to listen to.
Whenever the male narrator starts to speak it’s like grandma walking into your room 2 seconds before climax. Use your imagination

Political commentary ruined possible good book

These books could have been really good if the writer didn’t have to constantly have to put in so much political opinion. If I wanted political commentary I’d listen to Fox or MSNBC. I have over 1000 titles and I was really looking forward to adding this to my library. Truly sad

More divisive politics

Amazing story if not for the divisive political theater purposely portrayed in the story specifically designed to paint one party as “The evil party”. It’s getting old and does nothing but continue to drive a wedge between the people of this once great country. There are many evils in our governmental system but the biggest reason I switched from my conservative roots is because conservative politicians are more about corporate greed as proven by Citizens United and many many many bills that have turned into law that have taken more rights and freedoms from the American public than is true from the left. Also, every conservative led presidency since Reagan has only spent more on the military in the form of “private contractors” instead of increasing what we spend on our active duty and especially vets. The proof is in the pudding. That being said we need to take our government back starting with ELIMINATING ALL lobbyists and strengthening our laws AGAINST our reps being able to take outright bribes. It’s time to close the loopholes.
Instead of being politically divisive, this story could have highlighted the fact that all our politicians are being led down the wrong path of greed due to special interests

I’ve LOVED this while story line…. Until now. Trying to hard to bring a story to a conclusion by creating one too many coincidences where each one by themselves are fine, but too many back to back to back just annoys me at the laziness. A shame really as I really enjoy his writing. Until now

When you start creating one coincidence after another after another after another favor of just the good guy or just the bad guy just so that you can help your story come together it starts at first to be annoying and then after a while as the happy coincidences continue to happen it starts to infuriate you.
In this story, it’s as if the bad guys either have a crystal ball, or just luckily, always stumble into being in the right place at the right time, and having the ability to intuit quite literally everything that the good guys are either about to do or did do, and end up one step ahead of them every single time it literally takes the fun out of reading. What could it have? Been an amazing story.
I have over 1000 audiobooks in my collection and have been listening to audiobooks since audiobooks existed on cassette back in the 80s. I have had the occasion to dislike a story or watch or the way the story is advancing but that is usually with a writer who is fairly new to the craft. Coming from a writer that is as advanced as Koontz I simply find it sad. I would have loved to continue this series, but I can’t anymore and it now makes me nervous to buy anymore of his stories.

I’m been a truck driver for over 30 years so I’ve listened to literally thousands of stories. I’m extremely picky about my stories and even more particular about the narrators
This series is in my top 4
I’m terribly sad to see it end as I never listen to a story twice
I just may have to break from that pattern for this series
