I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews, and all suffice to say, this is not a book of magic and saving the world, it’s a story about people and how they’ve doomed it.
For those negative reviews talking about the flowery language and the immovable plot, then they do not understand what it is they’re reading.

Historia
The Flanagan sisters are as different as they come. Seventeen-year-old Annalie is bubbly, sweet, and self-conscious, whereas nineteen-year-old Margaret is sharp and assertive. Margaret looks just like their mother, while Annalie passes for white and looks like the father who abandoned them years ago, leaving their Chinese immigrant mama to raise the girls alone in their small, predominantly white Midwestern town.

A Beautiful journey through confusion and anger
Revisado: 10-27-23
I an Asian American, but I’ve never experienced racism in a way that has hurt me. I hear about it on the news and in cautionary tales, but it always felt so distant: like they don’t happen in real life.
This story shows me how real it is, and it shows me how confusing and angry it can make me feel. I am thankful to have my life align with finding this treasure. And I am thankful to know how hard bravery can be.
