Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Great epic tale, horrible narration
Revisado: 01-13-16
Let me start by complaining about this particular book’s narrator. My best short phrase is this: “Tragically over dramatized.” At the beginning of the reading it was so bad that all I could think was, “Please, take a breath.” I almost returned the audio book to get a paper copy and read it myself. Luckily, the narration became at least endurable after the first couple of chapters.
However, don’t let this deter one from enjoying this terrific epic tale. The story itself is very well done. One easily becomes caught up in the tales of horror, of loss and trepidation, as well as the powerful victories of this war. Yet there is always the human element. Mr. Weber develops tremendous detail on all his characters, so that you learn to know them, to love or hate them, and to truly feel for their plights.
Beyond this, the world of Safehold is created so realistically that one can almost believe that it exists. David Weber’s apparent knowledge and/or research into the method of battle and technology development is superb, giving life not only to the characters in this story, but to this development of technology along with the changes in society as this development spreads. This breaths much life and realism into this Science Fictional society.
What more could one ask for in any novel?
I could say a lot about what scenes and events I liked or didn’t in this novel, but I don’t believe in spoilers. If you are interested, enjoy it yourself.
I highly recommend this tale (Along with the rest of the books in this series) as David Weber’s best series too those that I have read/listened to. Definitely worth a list or a read.

outstanding fantasy novel
Revisado: 08-21-12
If you could sum up Shadow Chaser in three words, what would they be?
This is a familiar story of a group of heroes that go on a quest to acquire an artifact that the King needs to save their society. It takes place in a world teeming with all types of fantasy wonders and horrors. The group is opposed by the forces of nature and it's creatures, the Orcs, known as the first born, who dislike all other races in this world, and the forces of the "nameless one", whom the artifact will be used against. The action and adventure in this book is constant and the heroes move from one dangerous situations to another.
Note that this tale has been broken into three separate novels, my comments apply to all three of them as one.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character, Harold, is my favorite.
Which scene was your favorite?
There are so many terrific scenes in this tale that it is hard to choose one. Perhaps the scene where Harold manages to convince a Demon (who might not kill him if he provides a certain artifact), the Goat men (who have been trying to kill him because they think he has this artifact), members of the thieves guild (who actually have the artifact, but are framing Harold), and the guild of Wizards together to meet in a tavern. He manipulates each group using their specific weaknesses with tales that they cannot pass up. The upshot of this meeting is that many of the issues chasing Harold all are resolved.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book is full of excellent scenes that are sometimes funny, or exciting, and even some that are heart breaking. The author a masterful, creates rich believable characters that one grows to love and admire.
Any additional comments?
I have read and listened to a lot of Fantasy and SF novels in my years. Many have been very good some outstanding, but very few do I consider great works of fantasy. I consider the Chronicles of Siala novel three of the best I have every enjoyed. This will go on my top list and I will defiantly listen to or read it once again.

Historia
The Ankh-Morpork Post Office is running like...well, not at all like a government office. The mail is delivered promptly. Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig, former arch-swindler and confidence man, has exceeded all expectations - including his own. So it's somewhat disconcerting when Lord Vetinari summons Moist to the palace and asks, "Tell me, Mr. Lipwig, would you like to make some real money?"

Historia
The Colour of Magic, the first novel in Terry Pratchett's wildly imaginative Discworld series, takes the listener on a remarkable journey. The magical planet of Discworld is supported by four massive elephants who stand on the back of the Great A'Tuin, a giant turtle swimming slowly through the mysterious interstellar gulf. An eccentric expedition sets out to explore the planet, encountering dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course "The Edge" of the planet.

Excellent - how did I miss this?
Revisado: 07-30-03
Having been a fan of SF and Fantasy for a long time, I am amazed that Isomhow missed this story/series. It is excellent! Lightly humorous, not too serious, fun a really fun listen. The characters are rich and colorful and really tend to grow on you. By the end of the book, I found myself looking forward to more.
For a comparison, think of a combination of Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide series) and Robert Aspirin (Myth series). I am really looking forward to the remainder of the series.
