Historia
Among the autobiographies of great military figures, Ulysses S. Grant’s is certainly one of the finest, and it is arguably the most notable literary achievement of any American president: a lucid, compelling, and brutally honest chronicle of triumph and failure. From his frontier boyhood, to his heroics in battle, to the grinding poverty from which the Civil War ironically rescued him, these memoirs are a mesmerizing, deeply moving account of a brilliant man told with great courage.

Historia
A near-future novel set in the Midwestern United States. A plausible explanation is depicted on how the characters watch the dollar become worthless before their eyes. Without a viable currency, the economy and the country quickly slide into an apocalyptic collapse. Characters from various backgrounds are desperate to survive in a situation that has rapidly diminishing resources and many are ready to resort to the worst kinds of evil to get their "fair share".

What would have made Kings and Clans of the Midwest better?
Story development as opposed to small unit tactical vignettes populated by stereotypes?
What do you think your next listen will be?
it matters?
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Am unwilling to blame narrator for the work sounding like it was recorded in bunker fabricated of large, metal highway culverts.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment that Audible let this one loose on a trusting market.
Any additional comments?
in years of listening, this would be the first item a "money back guarantee" should apply.

Historia
Perhaps one of the most influential and controversial books in history, Machiavelli’s The Prince raises issues that are still debated centuries after its publication. The theories he developed in The Prince were derived from his observation of the successes and failures of the ruling class. The Prince was designed as a practical guide for newly appointed rulers and is required reading for all persons in a position of authority who strive for grandeur in business and politics.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Altruism may have some genetic root in the human ape but Machiavelli takes us above the jungle floor. He spells out the unwritten laws by which an ape who wants to succeed must think and proceed in the jungle overall. His instruction leaves morality aside, addressing only those practicalities which promote gaining or keeping the upper hand. And avoiding being "liquidated".
