Historia
Sarno's casinos - and his ideas about how to build casinos - created the template for Las Vegas today. Before him, Las Vegas meant dealers in string ties and bland, functional architecture. He taught the city how to dress up its hotels in fantasy, putting toga dresses on cocktail waitresses and making sure that even the stationery carried through with the theme. He saw Las Vegas as a place where ordinary people could leave their ordinary lives and have extraordinary adventures.

Captivating story about a pivotal time in Vegas
Revisado: 01-11-24
This is the best book about Las Vegas I’ve listened to. The author does a great job of telling the story of Jay Sarno, a larger than life personality. It’s a terrific listen.

Historia
Self-made billionaire Sam Zell consistently sees what others don't. From finding a market for overpriced Playboy magazines among his junior high classmates, to buying real estate on the cheap after a market crash, to investing in often unglamorous industries with long-term value, Zell acts boldly on supply and demand trends to grab the first-mover advantage. And he can find opportunity virtually anywhere - from an arcane piece of legislation to a desert meeting in Abu Dhabi.

Terrific!
Revisado: 06-01-23
I’ve read a lot of autobiographies and books about business people. I think this is the best of them all. Mr. Zell does a great job of describing his business deals, as well as his thought process behind his decisions. I’m sure I’ll listen to this book again next year to see what other gems I can mine from it. RIP Sam Zell.

Targets and incentives can drive breathtakingly positive results: the moon landings, the eradication of smallpox, or the repair of the ozone layer, for example. They can also have a dark side that can put executives in prison, bring global businesses to their knees, and even cause wholesale loss of life. Using practical examples and case studies, this book walks you through the essential steps of designing robust, effective, and credible targets and incentives for your organization. The approach is also perfect for selecting meaningful key results for OKRs.

Very good book about pay incentives.
Revisado: 01-07-23
This is a very good book about pay incentives. It explains the pitfalls of implementing an incentive program, including things I had not thought about.
It then lays out the steps to creating plans that produce company results, deter people from abusing them, and encouraging everyone involved.
There are a lot of books out there that tell you you SHOULD create incentives. This is a rare book that actually tells you HOW to do it.

Historia
Drawing on previously unpublished eyewitness accounts, prizewinning historian Donald L. Miller has written what critics are calling one of the most powerful accounts of warfare ever published. Here are the horror and heroism of World War II in the words of the men who fought it, the journalists who covered it, and the civilians who were caught in its fury. Miller gives us an up-close, deeply personal view of a war that was more savagely fought - and whose outcome was in greater doubt - than one might imagine. This is the war that Americans on the home front would have read about had they had access to previously censored testimony.

Incredible telling of the events of WWII
Revisado: 04-19-22
This is the best book I’ve ever read about World War II. It was difficult to stop listening every time I’d reach my destination. It’s incredible that the soldiers had the fortitude to withstand the horrors and hardship that they went through. The soldiers’ stories were riveting, and the narration of the book was exceptional.
