Karma. . .
Revisado: 09-30-16
The book was interesting. I like the idea of karma being a powerful force. In most paranormal systems demons are universally bad, but in this magic system they are not. I enjoyed the change. It was a fun lighthearted listen. The narration was well done. I was provided this book from audioblast.com in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. I enjoyed it enough to consider purchasing the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. The story development and the magic system was interesting and well thought out. The mystery element was well thought out and even though part of the mystery was solved in this book, the overall mystery will be presumed in the next book and hopefully the one after that. The narrator did a good job with the voices of the characters. The voices were well thought out and consistent. I already have the second book in the series and started it immediately after finishing. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy this is a good choice.

Historia
Ezra Keene is an artistic 16-year-old who wants nothing more than to settle in at his new school and put the tragedy of his brother's death behind him. He awakens one night, reeling from a hazy dream, to find his fingers blackened with pencil lead and a new drawing in his sketchbook - a drawing that depicts the grisly murder of someone he knows. The next morning he is shocked to learn the picture has become a reality.

I enjoyed it very much!!
Revisado: 08-19-16
If you could sum up The Heart Thief in three words, what would they be?
Action, Suspence, . . .Magic
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the journey that Ezra takes in the book. He is new in his school which is hard on anyone, especially hard on someone dealing with a death. To find that the nightmare that you drew actually happened and all the other oddities including one of his classmates. It would ruin the story to give out many details. So I will say I found the book engaging and satisfying.
Have you listened to any of R.C. Quartermaine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't believe I have ever listened to R.C. Quarter wine before. I was happy with the narration. The characters were easily identified by his voice changes.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
There are monsters in the shadows! Beware!

Historia
A thousand years ago the Darkness came - a terrible time of violence, fear, and social collapse when technology ran rampant. But the vicars of the Temple of Light brought peace, ushering in an era of blessed simplicity. For 10 centuries they have kept the madness at bay with "temple magic," and by eliminating forever the rush of progress that nearly caused the destruction of everything. Childhood friends Orah and Nathaniel have always lived in the tiny village of Little Pond, longing for more from life.

This book is set far in the future, where the clergy of the time repress the population and keep them under a tight set of controls couched in religous dogma. The primary characters are a set of teens who try to discover the answer to a puzzle one of them stumbled on while being held by the Vicars. Without going into much detail which would spoil the story, it is a novel of discovery and the coming of age of young adults and the realization that your journey may not always lead to what you expected, and that is not a bad lesson for a book to impart. Orah as a character was a little to know it all for me. I didn't like that she had to be rescued by Nathanial at the beginning of the story. My favorite character was Thomas. Damaged by his treatment at the hands of the Vicars, he was a reluctant companion. Not interested in the wondrous Keep, except for the music he found, he proves himself in the end. It is a good story, I listened to the book in two or three long sessions. It kept me interested. This is a young adult novel. It has some dark moments but nothing too extreme. I thought Erin deWard did an excellent job narrating the book. I have never listened to a book she narrated but I think will listen to more in the future. I will look for the next book in the series. I would like to see how the Vicars and the Seekers move forward.

Historia
There are two activities in life that are essential to one's happiness. The first is to have one's day (to explore, engage, and enjoy life), and the second is to say one's say (to say the words to oneself and/or others that are worth saying). An Uncommon Vocabulary is an exercise in saying one's say. Simply put it is an A-to-Z book of common words and phrases that are described in ways better suited to them, in the opinion of the author.

This book is a dictionary. It defines common and uncommon words in new ways. I might have enjoyed it more as a print book where I could jump around at my own whim, but overall it was enjoyable. If you like words and their definitions, you will enjoy this. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

Historia
Clean freak college student Dani Hashelheim never imagined she'd discover her latent magical ability in, of all places, a bathroom. But when she ducks into the ladies' room at the library, she's put in the crossfire between an elderly janitor and a ravenous muck-monster that emerges from the sink. Dani's previously unknown power manifests in self-defense, and she floods and burns down the library - at the same time.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. The magic system was interesting, the element of good vs evil was present, but it did't grab me. The narrator did a good job voicing the characters. I found it very funny in sections, but at the end I didn't feel the urge to get the next book. The writing was good enough that if the author started a different series with a different magic system I might try another of his books. I am certain that many people would find the book enjoyable, it just wasn't for me.
