Stream of Consciousness writing
Revisado: 12-01-24
This book had such amazing reviews I was very excited to start listening. I have to say the first third of the book was fairly interesting but the longer I listened the more convoluted and unbelievable it became. I had to push myself to finish and won't be continuing with the next book in the series. First of all Bryce is a very unlikeable heroine. She's the epitome of the girl boss trope that is so sadly common. I think the author pushed it to the extreme with Bryce. Hunt was also annoying, he reminded me of a puppy, just waiting to be pet by Bryce, very beta male vibes. I literally wouldn't have cared if either of them were done away with, that's how much I grew to dislike this book. And the writing had a stream of consciousness feel to it, as if the author wrote down whatever popped into her head, whether or not it made any sense or moved the story along. Very disappointing.

Kaz Wolfe has everything he needs to prevent a Convergence that would allow gods and monsters from the Nether to invade our world. Everything, other than a single clue about what a Convergence is. Or how it works. Or how to stop it. To get answers, he might have to take a fun-filled family road trip to the last place he wants to go: the Netherworld.

So glad to be back
Revisado: 06-08-24
I was a huge Expeditionary Force fan for the first 8 books but then i stopped reading. It's a long story so I won't go into it since I'm reviewing this series, which I love. So glad to be back in the Craig Alanson universe. These books really shine with the author's trademark humor, romping adventures and just plain fun. Duke is the best doggo along with all the merry band of characters that make up this magical world. Can't wait for the next one, hope it won't be too long a wait.

Historia
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Good not great
Revisado: 08-29-23
First the narration. I was surprised how different Darrow sounded when I started Lightbringer. It was jolting to say the least but I slowed the speed down to 90 and that helped. As the book went on TGR hit his stride and Darrow's voice was familiar again. I'm glad PB went back to one narrator, I wasn't a fan of multiple narrators, especially since Lyria and Lysander both had two different narrators between Iron Gold and Dark Age.
SPOILER ALERT:
I did like the book but it was definitely not my favorite. I was disappointed that so much time was spent on Lyria and Volga, especially Volga. It felt like filler and I found myself skipping paragraphs just to get to something more interesting. Quicksilver was also a disappointment. And last but certainly not least is Lysander. He's responsible for the deaths of two of my favorite characters in the most ridiculous ways. Maybe I could understand Alexander but the other death was just plain suicidal, not worthy of such a great character. It was the same scenario as Alexander, a senseless death at the hands of the repulsive one. Lysander is not an adequate adversary for Darrow. Everything seems to magically fall into his lap at the last minute. Lysander is a slimy little worm.
I've re-read Dark Age, Golden Son and Morning Star multiple times but I'm not sure I'll re-read Lightbringer. I'm actually glad this book is not the end. I look forward to Red God and hope it will be as compelling as Dark Age and end the series worthy of Darrow and all he has sacrificed. I just wish a certain someone would have been there to stand with him.

Engrossed in the series until contrived love story
Revisado: 03-26-23
I've already read way beyond the first three books, so I'm invested in this series but I had to back track to write this review because the introduction of Sara, the contrived love interest, pulled me right out of the story. It goes like this, Special Operator needs a lover so we'll have him act like a 14 yo smitten by his first teenage crush. Sara is as annoyingly perfect for him as u would expect and of course all the highly trained Special Operators take orders from her as well, uh huh. Don't want to go into spoiler territory so let's just say her introduction into the series ruined it partly for me. I'm still invested and will be reading until the end but the cloying love interest is a big unbelievable negative.

Struggled to get through it
Revisado: 08-07-22
I've been with this series since the beginning but book 8 was simply rinse and repeat of previous plot lines. Some of the characters were downright annoying, like Ada and even Lala, bossing everyone around. Finally why do the characters still mispronounce words like Florida? Timothy is an AI, pretty sure he knows how to pronounce Florida.
I wasn't sure if I would purchase Radioactive, Book 9, because I think the series has lost its mojo but in the end I did, hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Can't Get Enough!
Revisado: 04-12-21
Before I listened to Mindless I wanted to go back to Make Me King so I could remember all the details leading up to Mindless. Instead I found myself listening to Well Fed first, number four in the series, because well, I love it and can't get enough. Hope the wait for book seven won't be long.
This would make great TV but I'm afraid the "woke" police would ruin it. So I'm satisfied to listen and love Keith C. Blackmore's zombie opus.

Too Much Little Girl
Revisado: 12-25-20
Loved this series and was really looking forward to the 3rd audio book but sad to say the little girl character ruined it for me. She was annoying, especially since I had just finished another series with a character similar to her. I struggled to finish this book because of it. I actually had to stop reading for quite awhile before getting back to it. R.C. Bray was awesome as always.

Could Not Put It Down!
Revisado: 03-28-20
This book carried me to another world and time, allowing a respite from the real world. It was gripping from start to finish, one of the best sci-fi books I've ever read and that's saying something because I'm an avid reader of this genre. It swept me into it's violent world and never let go. The protagonist is exceptional, the narrator amazing. As soon as I finished Red Rising I ordered Golden Son, the next in the series and am already engrossed in it. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Terrific action packed listen. When I discoveread there was a Mountain book 5 I was ecstatic. Love Blackmore's writing, he and R.C. really shine as they bring this apocalyptic series alive once more.
Heck I still want Breeds 4.
Anyway looking forward to part 2 . I hope we don't have to wait very long. And please fix a certain someone many of us care about, she makes this book a solid 5 stars!
