great addition to a great series
Revisado: 07-27-23
This is by far the strongest book in the series so far. There is a larger group of perspectives to read from and the story feels like it's part of a much bigger world as a result. If you enjoyed the previous books you will love this one.
I did find that slowing down the audio plays better for me. I set it to .85 speed. I found that the narrator was speeding through things too fast for me.

Historia
Wolf of the North: It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be. Jorundyr's Path: Jorundyr's Path is walked only by the brave. As Wulfric pursues Adalhaid's Blood Debt, he soon learns that the path to revenge is never easy. The Blood Debt: A blade fit for a hero. An army for a tyrant. A reckoning long awaited, and a tale reaching its end.

Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

this book has zero plot to speak of
Revisado: 03-05-23
There are a couple of fun characters in the story to keep you entertained but be aware that there is no plot to speak of in this book. I have been told by fans of the series that plot comes later on with other books in the series. It would be best to think of this as the longest prologue you will ever read to a series than a novel. I tried to tell my wife what this book was about and couldn't find anyway to do so until the last couple of chapters and honestly I only have something to say at that point by really reaching for something to say. The world created in the story has promise and might be entertaining in the following books but honestly I don't think you need to know anything about the story beyond the information given to you in the synopsis. There is no story, no character development beyond one character and that's not much to speak of either. I don't think I'll be recommending this book to anyone.

Historia
Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew up on storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn't what the storybooks promised. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins. Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin is not destined to save the empire. He’s destined to destroy it.

great story but a huge disclaimer
Revisado: 04-10-22
So I want to say first of all I think the story being told here is very good. I like the characters and twists and raw brutality of the story.
This series has several elements that make for a great fantasy novel. The characters have a complex background and feel very well developed, the world has a rich history that's woven into the story and not just blatantly told to give the information. Thats not to mention magic, dragons, demons, gods, and so much more.
Unfortunately there is a huge problem I have with this series. Somewhere in the second book you will start to realize that every character in the book is either in an incestuous relationship, homosexual, bisexual, transsexual, asexual, or well I think you get the point. Now I dont have a problem with gay characters, I do however find it so distracting in the story when everyone just suddenly is gay, and I do mean everyone. I am almost through the 4th book and at this point I cant think of any character, and there are many, that is on the good guys side that isnt gay or asexual. The only people that font seem to have this shift are the bad guys, probably because they dont really get into their sexually.
There are several sexual scenes throughout the series which are fairly tastefully done but they come at the weirdest moments that just seem forced. Trying to sneak into a place well why not have a quicky in the storage closet just for kicks, or cant figure out how to get out of a bad situation, just distract them with a little sex.
I do want to say that the story is great. if you can get past the LGBT aspects of the story being crammed down your throat from absolutely every aspect of the story by the end then you'll enjoy the series.
I hate to say it but at this point I think the author kinda killed the story with her agenda which sucks because like I said before it is a good story. I think it may of worked better if there were a couple of gay characters or a gay romance the story focus more around, but for everyone to become gay it eventually just feels to forced and starts to impact the story in a poor manner.

This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want. But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other.

decent story terrible audiblebook
Revisado: 12-31-19
the voice over for the audible book is well done. the characters seems to be real and expressive. the problem is the editing and pacing of the story. I had to slow the audio down 10% just to make it seem like it wasn't speed reading the whole thing. there is no gap what-so-ever between chapters. you finish the last line of a chapter and immediately hear next chapter. It really cheapened the experience for me.

ok not great
Revisado: 01-14-19
the characters are very 1 dimensional, and story lacks any true depth but it's a fun book to listen to for what it is.
