I became a scientist thanks to people like Carl Sagan who made everybody fall in love with discovery. He was a brilliant researcher capable of talking simply and effectively straight to the mind and to the heart of all people. This book is a wonderful example of the sort. I read this book when it first came out, but hearing it read by him really touched me deeply. In a time in which science is being demonized and dismantled, I urge everybody to read this again or for the first time and think of ourselves as little ants on this pale blue dot, longing for discovery

I read this book when it came out and again now. What Segan wrote back then seems almost prophetic in the light of current events.

Exceptional stories of healing or at least of significant improvements when all hopes are lost. Being a victim of a stroke myself it has been a reinvigorating read, full of new avenues to explore

As a victim of stroke I was particularly motivated to read this book. I did so after reading a number of other books on the topic of plasticity. This work is extremely interesting and well organized. In my opinion, the subtitle does not correctly portray the breaths and span of its content, because it’s not just a collection stories, but it create a coherent picture of neuroplasticity and its impact on individuals and the society at large. As an individual, it motivates me to continue my own rehabilitation with more energy and determination. As an academician, it motivates me to devote some of my own research efforts to support however I can the progress in this field.

This is one of those rare cases in which a book that is beautifully written improves a great deal even further, thanks to the quality of reading. I couldn’t put it down.

I loved the psychological profiling of the characters and the constant changes of viewpoint. The reader projects that perfectly. Will be anxiously waiting for the next episode!

Ia lot is covered in this book, including whether animals have feelings. How come there is no mention of the role of music? Music is the only universal language of emotions, capable of creating complex emotional trajectories with no need of context. it seems to me that it should be one of the major topic of discussion when talking about understanding emotions

Perfect plot, unforgettable characters, wonderfully read! Makes you understand what drives people to achieve greatness: obsession, intelligence (in all of its forms), empathy and resolve.

When you see an episode of “black mirror”, it raises questions and it makes you think. Exhalation is, in my opinion, a masterpiece, because it doesn’t stop there. It raises important questions and gives you profound answers, and makes you think back and understand yourself and the world around you. I found a deep connection with each stories of this book, especially with "The Truth of Fact, the Truth of Feeling”.
